hi, what setup (mic, and pre amp) would I use to attain the most accurate sound when micing a guitar?

~thanks

depends on what kind of guitar.

I've no idea of what kind of budget your on, but... for electric guitar, if your micing the amp, a Shure SM-57 comes in quite highly.

If your micing an acoustic guitar, you might want to consider a condensor microphone such as the AKG C1000. Aimed at the sweet spot of an acoustic, it can sound really really nice.

As for the pre's -- well, the VLZ pre's on the small VLZ range of mackie mixers are said to be really good, or 'vanilla' as some have said.

good luck

Most accurate? Probably something like a DPA 4003 into a GML 2020. That would be pretty accurate.
