You mean between the MIM "Standard" and the MIA "American Series"?

Everything except the pots and perhaps the wire. 99% different instruments, and don't let anyone tell you any differently.

I keep meaning to put up a site listing the actual differences in detail, though slight changes are always being phased in and out.

Some of the MIMs are currently being upgraded in some respects, but not that significantly. Larger frets are in the pipeline, which is a big plus.

I'm telling you differently. As far as materials go, there are huge differences. But construction wise, 90% the same guitar.

The hourly rate paid to the workers for a start.

mexican strats are great guitars...a hell of a bang for the buck. i have a mex and a vintage strat so i think i qualify to make a judgement.

[QUOTEthey both suck. Get a Trump. [/QUOTE]

what's a trump?

this topic has been covered in the recent past with lots of great info divulged.

a Trump was my first guitar. I got it at a yardsale for $2. I don't think they make em anymore. They stopped sometime in the seventies I think. oh ya...That is Donald Trump.

I think Mexican strat's have a spanish accent in their tones and a low rider trem on them

Well, first of all, what is a guitar except parts & materials? They are almost totally different in that regard.

Construction is almost entirely different as well: The necks are made differently, the body blanks are made differently, the pickups are made differently, the finish is done differently... About all that's the same is the way they are wired.

The MIM "Standard" and the MIA "American Series" look superficially to to be alike. In truth, they are about as different as they can be and still resemble each other.

There are indeed lots of differences....so really it depends if you are cool with that.....there are less differences with the Jimmy Vaughan (made in Mexico), however.....

I have a Jimmy Vaughan Strat (made in Mexico) that is wonderful.......I also have an AM strat ('84)......the pick ups on the '84 are more better gooder, but the tex mex pups on the JV are ok at high volume, but weak at low......

The "V" shape neck on the Vaughan is wonderful.....nice frets too...

The whammy bar is, I don't know...kinda more coarse than the '84......I never use the freaking things anyway, so no matter.....

The Jimmy Vaughan is the best buy for a MIM git.............the other MIMs have larger differences....

You want differences?....check out http://www.fender.com/gear/gear.php?node_id=2321

Click the pics, then read the specs (prolly click "view", the Fender site blows hyaenas as far as ease of navigating goes...)

Keep in mind, if it doesn't say "American" in the blurb, it ain't.......

The Highway 1 or whatever it's called is a whole nuther animal....kind of a "bi-fender".....it has some MIM stuff and some MIA stuff blended together....it has gotten some really nice press for an affordable guitar that has some quality....I'd kinda like to have one, they have a satin finish which looks cool ....

I like my MIM JV a lot........and I've liked some regular MIM's as well...lots of people swear they have MIM's that totally blow the AM's out....

Anyway, congrats on yer new axe !!!!!.........gibs:cool:

The specs pages don't go into all the differences, just the most major ones.

The actual Fender parts lists are better, but even they don't tell the complete story, just that the parts are different, not how. You will get a clear picture of how few parts are the same, though.

I am not saying that MIM "Standards" Stratocasters are bad instruments (nor am I saying that they're any good), I'm just pointing out that they are almost totally different from MIA "American Series" instruments.

I'm really weary of hearing this ceaseless crap from ignoramuses about how they're "the same." They're not. They only superficially resemble each other.

I am basically tired of all the wankers that go into guitar center, play a couple gtrs on a Saturday afternoon, and feel they have a grip on all the intricacies of the electric guitar world.

Yes, otherwise known as the Harmony Central crowd. :)

I am with you mix...I am convinced that EVERY guitarist in the world can play Stairway to Heaven and Eruption judging by those guys in the guitar store every Saturday.

I would agree that the Mexican Strats give a lot of bang for the buck. I have one myself, and it is now about 5 years old. The only thing that I found less than satisfactory on it were the tuners, which I had replaced. Otherwise, it is an excellent guitar, especially for gigs, when it wouldn't be wise to bring out your most expensive piece and potentially have it damaged.

I highly recommend one for anyone who needs a good gig guitar or is looking for quality in a mid-range price bracket.
