Brian,
the session drummer is a very useful tool if you learn to use it to its fullest potential.
You can create your own click track by either step entry or loop recording midi.The notes can be quantized and the velocity set through midi effects.
Then you can import this pattern into the session drummer to create your own style,this is all in your manual.
I download midi patterns from the internet and load those into the drummer.
I download whole midi files free and open them in sonar then I drag the drum track into another song file at which point it can be cut up into patterns.
I like midi better than loops because I find it to be more "liquid".
This may sound like a bit of a hassle but I'm rhytmically challenged
and maybe I'm old fashioned but when I use loops it just does'nt feel like I'm making the music.
Now as far as the previous post I think thats a good idea too I agree about the visual aspect.
