Meter probs with Fruity Loops & Sonar.

I couldn't get a decent shuffle rhythm in fruity loops until I changed the song settings to:

Tempo-150
Bar length-24
beat length-6
Timebase-96

After doing that I can't get the measures (bars) to align in Sonar. I've tried to change the settings in Sonar (changed the meter to 6/4 & 12/8 and tried changing tempo as well) but that doesn't seem to help at all. What am I doing wrong?

I'm exporting the fruity loops file as a wav and then importing it into sonar. Is there a better way?

Hey 'Bird,

I can't get any sense at all out of FruityLoops, so you're surely more adept than I am. :)

Really, I much prefer to use pianoroll view and set up my drum patterns that way. For shuffle rhythm I set the notes to 8th Triplet and just point and click with the wee pencil pointer. It works for me.

I use HS2002, but I'm sure Sonar will do the same for you. If you've got a decent SoundFont player (or a Creative audiocard) there are some truly fine drum fonts out there that you can use, GoldDrums being a particular favourite of mine and others round these parts.

I understand there are some Acidised drum loops on the Sonar disc. Have you tried any of those?

I have not tried the piano roll thing. I'll look into it. But I've been using fruity loops for so long I'm just used to it. I use it to make drums, bass and sometimes piano. Will the piano roll do all that?
 
Can't you just push the little 'shuffle' slider up in Fruity till it swings like you want it to? Once you get it sounding right, you should be able to export to WAV, then open it in Sonar, and all should be well. You didn't mention the shuffle slider, so I wondered if you knew it was there. If you do, forget what I said! I don't use FL anymore, or I would try to duplicate your problem. Good luck.

Yes, I have tried the shuffle slider and that ain't no shuffle.

Yes, yes and yes in that order. :D

With melodic instruments, piano, bass whatever, you can have notes of one bar, two bars or more in length. You just stretch them by grabbing the back end with the pointer and dragging the note for as long as it will sustain.

With the percussive channel piano roll view, the notes appear as diamonds and can't be stretched. You can switch off the snap to grid and have the drums sounding very sloppy to give them a more live feel.

Is there no one that can help with this? I never had this problem with PA9, so it has to be something that I'm doing wrong.
 
It doesen't seem like a PA9 problem...

I remember the Shuffle Slide in FL and in version 2.7 (the last time I updated ;) ) it would shuffle as mad. I think that if the slider doesen't work, then there's something wrong with your programming of the loops....
 
I don't think it's the loops, it worked fine in PA9 just not the same in sonar. Maybe I need to update Fruity Loops.
 
Have you tried to 'Groove Clip' them?

Right-click on the clip/loop and select Groove Clip Looping. Drag the end of the clip till your hearts delight. Now you have the clip looped as many times as you want it...
 
Maybe my question wasn't clear. The problem I'm having is that I'll make 12 bars of music in fruity loops and export them as a wav file. When I import it to sonar, everything I did is still there but it's been squeezed into 8 bars (I'm talking about the the bar markers on the tracks here) and it's playing to fast.

This is a wild stab in the dark, I could way off beam here...

Check your preferences in FL and make sure you have the bit depth & sampling rate the same as you do in Sonar. I don't use FL, so I've absolutely no idea if you can change these in FL.

If you're recording 12 bars in FL and they're being compressed to 8 in Sonar you've got a 2/3 difference.

It could possibly be the tempo in FL isn't the same as in Sonar.

You know, I've got a suspicion that this topic has been raised before and I think it was a conflict in sampling rates.

Thanks BluesMeister, I'll look into that and if that doesn't do the trick, I'll just learn to use the piano roll.
