Metal Piece - Mic'd Guitars

Hey bigbubba,

Short and sweet. The rhythm guitars need to be bought up in the mix. A few db's in volume and a slight tweak in the mids would really bring them forward. I am not a great fan of the ol machine gun kick but it fits so...:)
The lead guitar tone is sweet.

Thanx for sharing!

The guitars really need to be louder. They sound kind of fuzzy too. They actually sound more like "direct" guitars than mic'd. That high-mid fuzz direct sound. Keep playing with it. I'm no metal guitar expert, but I've gotten some pretty thick metal-ish tones by cutting the gain in half on the amp and double-tracking.

Very cool bubba. Agree with whats said so far. I also really dig that lead tone. Great arrangement. Was hoping to hear more lead actually kinda missed it when it was gone. Big improvement over the last guitar sounds i heard from you. Sounds much closer to the metalish-tone i think you were looking for to my ears.

Very cool man.

Take care

Gary

Gorty, Thanks for listening and commenting. I appreciate it. :)

The left guitar was muted in the version you heard. That was a bad mix. Sorry about that.

Tried to mix blast beat metal with power metal really. I haven't really played metal ever so trying to adopt a style. Metal has so many genres and each almost makes their own.

Glad you like the lead. :)

Greg, thanks for listening and commenting. :) I appreciate it. There was a guitar missing in this version leaving the only available one sounding a little fuzzy than the overall mix was supposed to sound. :) This has rhythm triple tracked. Soon it might be quad-tracked. :D

Gary, thanks for listening and commeting. :) I appreciate it. Well there's not enough lead since it will eventually have vox. When I can force myself to sing.

You may have heard the fixed version. :)

All

There is also a DI'd guitar added to thicken things a little. The mic'd guitars sounded a little thin. Anyhoo, there's 3 guitars for rhythm - 2 on the left and 1 on the right. The right side might get another one.

bubba..

Overall, the mix seems a little sterile...everything seems to lay pretty much in the same plane in the mix. Might be time to use a little verb here and there to establish some different spaces. I'd for sure throw a bit of verb at the snare and rhythm guits. Speaking of the Rhythm parts, they seem pretty present between 300 - 500hz. They almost box up at times, but then seem to just pull away before they do. Might not hurt to feather them back a bit there and maybe add a corresponding touch at around 1k to help with definition. Now, the lead tone kicked ass. Wouldn't touch a thing with it!

I'm being pretty picky...the mix works ok as it is, it just doesn't really seem to gel yet. But then, you aint finished with it either.:D

Those rapid fire parts on the guitar are impressive! The first lead tone is good but the second lead is mucho sweeter (just my preference - maybe it's just where it's played on the fretboard). A tad up on the rhythms would be good and I think I agree with Teysha about the verb on the rhythms. I'm definitely hearing amp here. Sounds like a new mix may be forthcoming to add the additional guitar(s) so I will keep an eye on this thread....

:D:cool::D:cool:

Hey Bubba, you have good thing going here. You sound pretty locked in with the drums on the electrics and have some good clean rhythms mixed in there. Yeah that part at 1:50 just rox, love it... not sure about the drums, sounds like a machine gun... I personally think it sounds cool, but I'm no metal player so I'd check with them to see if it's a good sound or not.. Cool tune, look forward to more of it :D

TeyshaBlue, thanks for listening and commenting. :) I appreciate it.

It always sounds sterile. :) Don't know what to do. Added more verb to the drums. If I add anymore to the rhythms they'll not sound so tight and will sound muddy. OK, next mix will have a little cut from 300-500Hz on the rhythms. :)

Thanks very much for your input.

Ido, thanks for listening and commenting. :) I appreciate it.

The first lead tone is kind of not really something that is final. It's kind of there to give a big hall feeling with drowing verb and delay. So two for the verb on rhythms. Might add a little then.

Yeah will add another guitar. Might even add a little extra verse or some solo to make it 2:50 at least. :D

Hey SnakeDog, thanks for listening and commenting. :) I appreciate it.

Being locked with the drums sounds a good thing. I got serious timing issues with my playing in general. Requires many takes and normally I keep the one I'm least unhappy with. :D

Yeah it's not sounding extactly how I'd like but it's sounding alright. Maybe vox will give it that 3rd dimension. :)

Nice song!!!..

The leadsounds are awesome, and the drums are nice too. I liked the keyboard startng out and the guits slamming on top-parts also, it kinda ends too soon, could be longer???

I'd sweep the mids to extinction from the rhythm guitars, as they*re a tad boomy. Or use a maximixer to boost the lows and highs, nice picking action there... Get the bass audible in there, and you'll need less bottom from guitars. And for the love of God make the song longer... Had to play it a dozen times over writing this!!:D

Good tune!

Bass defiition needed - the tone of the L channel guitar really grew on me I like it - it's a little louder than the R in my h/phones though.
I like the whole thing actually except that I'm not into the super speed bass drum stuff - that's in general & not specific to you mate.
the verb over the intro lead does leave a slight tunnel effect on the overall mix until it drops away.
I look forward to hearing this with vox.

BB, really cool song you have cookin' here....listening on laptop/earbuds, so I cant really comment on the mix , but the drums seem a bit buried at times....I do like when the guitars and drums lock tight......really cool guitar solos here! Guitar overall sounds pretty good, although I found the reverb a bit distracting in the intro until the song got kickin',,,seemed kinda hollow maybe? Also a bit more overall bass guitar in the mix might sound cool as well...Good one growing here, It's gonna sound cool when your finished!

Not sure where you are on this mix I'm listening to, but it's sounding pretty good. I think the rhythm guitars are a bit thick in the low end...they seem to step on the bass a bit. That might also be giving them that fizzy type sound...see if letting the bass come out helps some. I like the lead/melody lines. That sounds pretty good. Good tone there.
