Hey, I wanted to get some mixing opinions on this clip before i went on and finished the drums.

Personally i think the snare needs something more... I also think the kick might need to be turned down...

But if you could give me some eq and level suggestions on these drums before i go on that would be really helpful...

I have 4 tracks of drums...

Kick
Snare
Overhead Left
Overhead Right

Thanks!

Link doesn't work??
If you're using a pc, right click on the link and choose "save as."

If you're using a Mac, try voodoo.

Hey man, I think the kick sounds great for this. I think what you're gonna' hear from others is that the snare is out of place. Sounds like a big ol' picallo with a lot of ring, and this genre (according to some) absolutely demands that huge, beefy, cracking snare...but I know squat about drums.

Also, I only got :38 seconds of the mix...is that all you posted?

Oh yeah...levels. The snare seems a bit UP in the mix to me, but it may just be the snare sound itself. Personally, I'd EQ it in the 2K range to pull it down some? I'm possibly talking completely out of my ass.

Haha... I figured the first reply would be from you!

And sorry about the link, it didn't work right when i first posted, but i edited it... And yes i only gave 38 seconds of it.

The snare, i would agree with you, i was hoping i could eq it to sound good cause i have a shitty snare with a nice drum set...

Thanks Chris.... listened to it. Yeah the snare is .... well it should cut through anything that's for sure. Think there's to much mid frequency on it. And it needs to be dampened with duck tape or something. Then boost the low and high end, and scoop out the 2k to about 3 or 400. And it needs some verb on it. At least that's what I think...

SOUNDS like the makings of a kick ass tune,..baited breath and all...

Doesn't sound bad, except the snare sounds like it's asleep :o There is a lot of "ring".

It just depends on the final mix... IMO the guitars are a bit low, even... if you brought them up, it would change how the snare sounded in this mix.

Try this: bring the guitar faders up 2db, and slap some heavy compression on the snare (or limiting, if you have it)... only do that during the loudest parts, then shut off compression during quieter parts. This will pop the snare thru, and depending on your settings, almost sound like a gate.

On one of my old tunes I'm remixing right now, I'm putting a LA2A on the snare, Limiter on, Gain around 60-65 and Limiting at about 40. It makes the mushy sounding snare POP.

This is just an idea for you... as I'm not exactly sure how your final mix would end up, it may/may not work.

But if you were to retrack, damping the snare head and smacking the hell out of it would help.

BTW sounds like some cool tunz comin'.

I'm going to be completing the mix tomorrow hopefully...

I tried the gate stuff and it just sounds pretty bad cause the hi-hat bled through the mic to much.
