Killer guitars, dude!!!! Nice sounds all around. What do you call it?
It is damn awesome, whatever you title it. Very full.... :D

It is interesting how different your monitors sound than my Event 20/20's.

I hear you added the guitar solo in. Did you do anything else to this mix since I was there?

I agree about the guitars. I was telling Chris yesterday that they are "gold"!

I like how the kick is translating too. I really wanted to work on that snare a bit more though. It isn't bad, but I think it could be better.

Alongside the monitors its probably the environment too.

I tweaked the high end of the vox a little more.....
Added the lead of course, which i just wrote and tracked this morning actually.
Added some 2 bus compression...thats about it.

Yeah. I actually might have worked some more low end on things if I mixed it here.

Although, for this genre, the low end is generally a hair anemic anyway.

We should work that mix over a bit more at some point. I can hear some things that I would want different. Hearing it in a familiar environment points out a few things.

I like it overall though! Certainly nothing "purist" about this! I am betting Southside Glen could have done this using nothing more than mic placement! ;)

Cool, ill leave it as is for the moment.
And well tweak in a few.

I am thinking that normally in this genre, the snare has a bit more agressive attack. Possibly compressing the top head more with a attack that lets' the smack get through.

A mastering engineer buddy of mine who does a lot of metal projects really likes the snare though. So, it is just a preference thing. I mean, the snare DOES sound "good", I am just not sure if it is the best sound for this song.

Anyway. Cool metal! LOL

The guitars are killer. I wish I coudl pull that shit off. Obviosuly I cannot, but hey, if you guys feel like sharing any tips on how you got anythign the way it was, feel free! Also, if you wouldn't mind telling me the signal chain for the guits, i would appreciate it.

Mesa triple rec head at 8 ohms to a Marshall 1960 lead 4x12 cab.
Mic'ed up close, 1"in off the grille.
I used a royer r121 and a shure sm57.
The 57 sent to a API 312, and the royer went to a neve 1242.
All that into a Neve 33609 compressor (which in retrospect acually hurt the recording a bit) through some apogees and then to
Pro tools.

The cab was utterly cranked.
The cab was on a stand.
It was mic'ed in a very large room.

in mix down they were expanded a bit using a Waves Rcomp to help undo some of the 33609 squish effect.
No eq or verb or anything like that though. Just straight up, and down guitar tone.

Good shit

Man those guitars sound fat and I love the drums and drumming as well. What is the name of the band playing that song. That music is right up my alley. That is the sound I am striving for with my mixes but I'm a long way off. Kickass!!!!!

The band is called Amongst Us.

Chris did a really good job tracking this stuff. We only worked on this mix together for about 3 hours, and I imagine he put another hour into to finish it up.

Not bad at all for a 4 hour mix! :) But, if the tracking would have been bad, we wouldn't have gotten it this far along in so short amount of time.

Woah, not been on here for fekin ages. My computer has been pretty broken, but I just got a new beast so im gonna be on here more often now.
Good stuff as usual Chris.
I agree that the snare could do with a bit more snap. Prob place another EQ with a real thin Q boost ontop of the EQ already on it.
Guitars are awsome real awsome. :)
Kick is nice and meaty with punch and low end but I would like to hear more of the 5K region a little.
Loving it though.

Bass is wicked also as are the toms.
What did you use for the bass?

Wow!

If I could achieve guitars CLOSE to that, I'd spontaneously ejaculate. :D

This kicks serious ass!!!

Nice sound guys!
One of the better sounding metal tracks I have heard lately.

How high did you have the gain set on the rhythm guitars?
