I need to get some advice. I just finished a sample of my mic technique.

I used two sm57 on each speaker and a at2020 condenser about 3 feet away.
In Sonar, I have one sm57 panned 80% left (applied paramet. eq) and the other 80% right( applied tube plug in and paramet eq), I cloned one track and applied a little reverb 10% right. finally the condenser mic track I applied paramet eq (10% left pan).

On the output I applied a little compression.

please listen to the track and give me some pointers. I also am aware of the lack of gain on the track.

thanks

Ok...where to begin...loose all the mics!

Do this, and if it still sounds like crap, then the source is probably the problem.

1) Use a single SM57 near the rim of the speaker, pointed at about 45 degrees toward the rim. Place about 3 inches away. (btw - this is just a starting point for mic placement)

2) Record your riff

3) Record your riff again (don't copy/paste the track, just record the riff again on a seperate track)

4) pan track 1 hard left, pan track 2 hard right.

5) high-pass filter starting around 100 hz

6) low pass filter starting around 8000 hz

That's it. This will get you started. If you want to add the ambient mic, record that a 3rd time. The trick to all of this, is keeping your playing tight.

Post an example with this method so we can compare/contrast.

Do you have to use the plug-in for the distortion? If not, then don't.
