Hello friends.

Please give me your comments on the audio-, mix-quality of my work.

The song originates from the game Metal-Gear on the NES console.

I am a little worried about the mid-range, it seams cluttered, any advice on how I can clear it up? Also the bass is not as clear as I would want it, any ideas how I can get it more pronounced?

Weirdly, in my opinion, were yer cymbals panned all left and right, and all guitars and the bass in the center?....
I've used to put guits left and right (75%) and panning cymbals some 25-50% left and right, leaving the can-drums and the bass in the middle....

Panning bass and guits in different place might help with cluttering, which wasn't bad imho anyway.. Levels sounded close enough, the bass could use more bottom, but that's from a bassist.. Cool playing!!
Not a bad song either.

Yes, I guess you are right. The thing is that we made dual takes of all guitars (rythm, lead, harm) and panned them hard left - hard right. To get that broad effect. But after I decided that the rythm guitars did not need to be upfront I guess I could spread out the rythm and harm (and possibly the high-end of the bass) a little bit.

Hmm.. I dont know what it is up with my speakers (Tannoy Reveal + Rotel RA-01) I get alot of bass. Is it the really low end that you are looking for, or is it the mid-range tone that you want more of?

No, acctually I am playing the bass. Its my friends that are the guitar gurus, even though this song acctually put them to the test. It was really hard for them to get it just right.

This is great. I have heard a lot of video game theme music covered before over the years (lots of Mario, Contra and I think Metal Gear as well) and this may be the most professional sounding one of all. I can't believe it is almost like its own genre now...

Anyway, I am listening on not-so-great 'puter speakers so cannot be too sure on the mix, but it sounds good. I love the bass playing on this. The cymbals seem as though they may be panned too far apart as another may have mentioned, and as such, seem to stand out a bit more than they should...but what do I know?

Really a great effort...sounds like you guys were having fun...

Hey everyone.

I made a new mix with the guitars and bass a little more panned out, I forgot about the panning of the cymbals though, I'll think about it when I do the next mix, hopefully the last.

The bass is VERY toppy - it does need more meat - another bassist I'm afraid.
Good playing though I'd have liked a more guitar tone on at least one guitar. But that's my taste for you - were the tones digitally/pedall/podishtypething genreated? They sound it to me. A bit fizzy & high.
Good work so far.

Yes, I guess you are right. I'm not the best bassist. And, sadly, I had to use a plectrum to play this song. My fingers are not trained enough.

No we were not using a pod but we were using a metal-zone pedal + JJlabs amp + Rode NT4 that gets a similar, but still better, according to me, sound.

New better mix/master:

Alot less cluttered, it has some problems with the high-end and the low-midrange. But still better. Pls give comments and tips on how I can get the low-mid range better
