Just trying to get to know my new gear here.

This is only drums, bass, and one rhythm guitar so far. I am the drummer and also the recording dude.

I asked the guys in my band to come over, one at a time, and record a few tracks so that I could practice recording. I don't know if this will turn into a project or not. We may start over again and try different methods.

Give it a listen and see what you think.

(Gee, the recording sure lost a lot of "air" when I converted it to MP3.)

I think this link streams it.

Also, here is a pic of the little room.

I thought it sounded good. If you are going to post as mp3, you might try to convert at least 128, if not more, and 44khz. Might give some of the punch back to it, if it lost some. Other than that, sounded pretty good to me.

I would try turning down the bass and turning the guitar up a bit, but other than that i like the tune. Good work

Yeah, I know. I have a grand total of about 4 minutes invested into the mix so far. It’s not done by any means. I merely whipped it together for this upload. I just wanted to know what you guys thought of the initial tracking and the general sound, to see if I am on the right track or not. (no pun intended) I didn’t get to the challenging part of the project yet. ...the vocals.

I duplicated the guitar track and bumped it down the time line a few milliseconds to widen it but, I am not so sure I really wanted to do that. Once we get two or three other guitar parts in there, that phasing may work against me. I should probably make him double the track by playing it again.

I am not happy with the way the cymbals are coming out either. My overhead mics are junk and they do not match, albeit you can hardly tell from this mp3. I need to get a decent set and re-record the drums.

Dogman, I'll check the resolution of my mp3 conversion. That may make it better.

Thanks for the listen guys. I’ll keep you posted when we get more done.

very loud click on the kik. Do you dislike mids? Weird EQ. Missing power from the missing frequencies.

The kick? Hmm. It doesn’t sound that bad on my monitors but, if it translates that way then I had better learn how to compensate for it. I had not taken it anywhere yet to see how it translates to other systems, as this is my first recording.

Come to think of it, I am not happy with my monitors. The mids and highs seem to be lacking something. They are there but, they just don’t sound as natural as they should. They almost border on harshness when I force them to dance a bit. I don’t have any EQ in the signal path. All the EQ cut switches on the back of the monitors are set to OFF or flat.

That’s what I get for buying cheap monitors. It looks like I had better fix this room with some treatment. However, I rent here and I can’t just go nailing or gluing anything to the walls.

I’ll do some testing and try to tune them a little better.

Thanks for your help.
