Would an avatar 2x12 cab be sufficient for a Mesa single rectifier solo 50 head?

The head is 50 watts(tube), and the cab I was looking at was rated @ 120.
This would seem sufficient, but what do I know  :D

That is wayyyyyyyyyy underpowering the speakers. You should look at their 2 x 12 - 60 watt cabs instead. That would be alot better suited for you.

Erm,... yea... my bad.
It was 60 watts.
Yea I was gonna say........I was wondering if you meant to say 4 x 12....but yes the 2 x 12 60 watts is perfect

Well, a 50 watt tube amp will put out peaks of upwards of double the watts. So a 60 watt cab will be eaten alive if you play at full volume too much.

Marshall has the 1960ax cab that is rated at 100 watts. It has four 25 watt Greenback speakers, but if you read the fine print, Marshall themselves tell you not to use a 100 watt head with it because a 100 watt head will output upwards of 180 watts at times.

120 wouldn't be too underpowered IMO.

I am playing my 30 watt BiValve (which can be anywhere from 8-33 watts based on tubes) through a 100 watt 1960ax cab.

so is it safe to say that it is not wise to be playing my soldano SL-60 through a Mesa 2x12 Cab being sold on ebay right now? i've been keeping my eye on it for $335...

That really depends on the amp, the tubes in it, the voltage it's plugged into, etc.
