I've had my mesa boogie f-50 for about a year now. It just doesn't sound as good as it used to. It used to sparkle and sounds amazing, but these days it doesn't sound so great. I even started to notice a little crakling.

Do I need to replace the tubes? Do different tubes produce a different tone?

Also there is a sound like a loose screw rattling when I play and low E string. Could this be tubes as well?

Of all the mods you can do to a guitar amp, changing tubes will give you the least amount of change in your tone, but you can definitely hear a difference.

I'm pretty sure a Mesa amp will do almost anything you tell it to do! But the best way to duplicate a sound is to use the same gear they used. Did Mesa amps even exist when that song was made? Might be a Fender thing, I dont know.....

I've got an F-100, I'm not sure if the F-50 takes 6L6s, but Ruby Tubes are absolutely amazing and they do make a significant difference over the stock Sovteks.

Yeah, I'm finding that almost anything is better than Sovteks. But I am also finding that the Sovteks seem to last longer.

I got great sound out of some Sylvanias, and some RCA's. A friends swears by the Tung Sols and and the Winged C tubes.

For reliability I'm having really bad luck with JJ's.....
