Here it is...

These are the mics I own that I use for recording:

Neumann U87 Stephen Paul modified - still has the sticker from the Record Plant on it!

(2) Neumann KM84's

I have these mics but I don't use them for recording... it isn't because I don't like the way they sound, it's because the Neumanns always sound, to me, better:

(2) Sennheiser 441
(2) Shure SM81
(2) Shure SM57
Shure SM58
Sony Mic that came with Model 001 tape recorder
EV 727 ND
+ some junkers

I do use the 441 for vocals at gigs.

I haven't bought a mic since 1990 or so.

A friend of mine only has a U87 and 2 KM84's and says that's all he needs. He won a Grammy nomination a couple of years ago so I'd say he's on the money with that statement.

My advice: sell all your crap mics and buy one KM84, start there.

I only own an Oktava MK-012 (package with the two additional different polar pattern'ed caps), now looking for an MK-319 to go along with it.
I'd like a Shure KSM32 but the prices are crazy over here.

So you must really like those 604's? I was considering adding one to my collection.

Shure SM57 (2)
Shure SM58
Shure SM81 (2) I don't use the Shure mics hardly at all

Sennheiser 421 (2) I use the Sennheisers for vocals for live gigs only

EV PL-11 this is a comedy mic I use on snare

Neumann KM84 (2) I use these as drum overheads, as a stereo pair on guitar, guitar amps, backup and lead vocals, percussion, flute, violin... they are incredible sounding mics - sound like Pink Floyd

Neumann U87 made in 1971, I use it on lead vocals, guitar amps, bass drum, trumpet, sax, backup vocals... any "lead" anything
U87.jpg

the case of the U87 is beat to crap, with lots of dents - I'd like to know who did them and on what album. Knowing that it was from the Record Plant NYC it very well could be a well known drummer. It was modified by microphone guru Stephen Paul.

I'm new to the forum and recording in general...here's a list of my meager mics...

1 Sure PG58
1 Sennheiser 815s
2 Old, Really old Sure Unidynes..

Ha, after much help from all of you, I know have these along those up there, which stay in a drawer. :)

Pair of Samson CO2s
Samson CO1
MXL R144
SM58
Behringer C2

2 SM57s, a Beta52, and a 179 on the way.
