So that's about 17. Only the AT4040, M201, D6 and NT1-A are particularly good. The F-series Audix mics usually do the trick (especially the F15's), and the SM57's are always handy.

I'm looking to buy a pair of Audix D2's and a D4 in the near future. I'd say they would be my next upgrades along with some cabling.

beyerdynamics M500 ribbon- $200

i have learned my lesson of buying crappy mics. don't do it. you just end up buying nicer ones later.

Like others here, I too have updated since my original post...

Here's my current list, in alphabetical order, which I'm embarassed to say is totally excessive for a home recordist (and heavily weighted towards low-end pricing). Hello. New to forum, hi.

01 Neumann TLM103 (1000, Anniversary Edition B&H)
01 AKGB C414 XLS (670 new at GC)
02 Rode NT5 (319 B&H)
01 Shure SM57 (100 MusicGoRound)
01 Sound Addict 57 (clone of Shure SM57, kid plays with it now)

Had but sold:
AKG C1000S
Groove Tubes GT55
Shure SM58

I like the 103 for voice. Don't know what I like the 414 on. It's versatile but not "wow"ing. Got the sm57 for guitar amp. Just got the matched Rode (Aussie make) for acoustic. GC will lend me a KM184 and a C451 to play with. I'll see within the month if the Rodes aren't good enough for me. Don't have high end preamps for them yet. Just an LA-610 principally for the 103. Everything else after that would go direct into my Akai DPS24 onboard pre's.

I am Mr budget mic!

Shure SM58
Sennheiser E825s (x2)
AKG D68s
SE1a (matched pair)
Studiospares S900 (SDC) x2
Studiospares SD101 (kick)
Studiospares S930 (instrument)

I've had a few others which have got lost along the way

Here are my 4 mics. Soon to be six or seven after spending the Santa Clause money.

2 x Behringer C2

Near future purchases:

SM57
GLS ES-57

Now I've added:

1 x SM57
2 x GLS ES-57

Still waiting for a good deal on a kick mic. :) Anyone???
