OK, here's my inventory:

Telefunken (Neumann) U-47 (circa 1957)
RCA 77 DX (from the 50's, rebuilt by Clarence Kane)
Shure 556C "Fatboy" (recently rebuilt by Mutant Mics)
2 Neumann KM-84 (consecutive SN, circa 1975)
2 Sennheiser MKH 40
AKG 414 EB (Silver)
AKG 414 EB P48 (Black)
EV 635
Electro Voice 644 Soundspot (bought in high school, 1967ish)
EV 664 (Gold with matching gold desk base)
EV 666 (Mic of the beast?)
EV 676 (Gold)
EV 676 (TV grey, rare finish)
EV 674 (the 676-674 are my favorite EV mics)
EV 627 (Labeled as Ampex H-1390)
2 EV RE 16s.
2 EV RE 15s
Shure 545 Unidyne III
Shure 566 Unidyne (ball mic with shockmount, Gold)
Astatic 77
3 Turner 500 (dynamic mic, 2 don't work)
2 Sennheiser MD 408 (odd looking mic with element connected to gooseneck, has Tuchel connectors at mic.

I've also owned a Shure 330 ribbon, AKG D-222, AKG D-224, AKG D-200 pair (bought those in high school too, wore them out!), U-87 (not a fan, needs a Williams, Korby or Bradley mod to take the "veil" off of it), AKG C-60 tube SDC (was in sad shape with power supply issues).

Wishlist: AT4047, Shure 141 or Beyer MC 930 pair and I'd like to try a couple of models made/modded by AA in Canada and Avantone. Joly's MJE-47 capsule intrigues me too.

I collect. I also use them.

(1) Shure SM57 dynamic - modded, resonator disc removed
(1) Senheiser e906 dynamic
(1) CAD Trion 7000 ribbon
(1) CAD M179 variable pattern LDC
(1) Rode NTK tube LDC
(2) MXL 603 SDC - modded, ceramic capacitors swapped for film or polystyrene
(2) Behringer C2 SDC - God only knows why

Pair of Samson CO2s
Samson CO1
MXL R144
SM58
Behringer C2

2 SM57s, a Beta52, and a 179 on the way.

Now current list:
2x Samson CO2
2x Samson CO1
MXL R144
SM58
Behringer C2
3x SM57s
Beta52
Oktava 319

Lots of cheap mics here...

(1) Shure SM58
(1) Shure SM57
(1) AKG D1000
(1) Peavey PVM 1
(2) MXL 992
(2) MXL 603C
(3) Superlux PRA-228A
(1) Superlux PRA-218A
(3) Samson QTom
(1) Samson QSnare
(1) Samson QKick
(2) Samson C02
(3) Samson R11 (got them free with mic stand purchases :D)

The old AKG D1000 has a pretty bad reputation, but on some vocal tracks and certain guitar cabs it sounds quite good, IMHO.

I now have 12 times as many mics as when I originally answered the poll a couple years ago. (Had 1 mic at the time) :D

Just enough junk to get me through a session

SM57- $60
AT-2020- $80
Sennheiser e609 silver- $80
some live mic- free
AT4050- $311
SM7- $315

I'm still trying to find the balance of "plant where you grow" and "buy where you need to be"...

Here's my current selection.

3x Sennheiser e604
1x AKG D112
2x Rode NT5
1x Shure SM-57
1x AKG D880
1x sE Electronics 2200a

Apart from maybe another 1 or 2 '57s, I think my microphone binge is on hold. I have enough mics to do my whole drum kit now, which was the main reason for buying. I am now at the point where other things will make the biggest difference to my sound, like mic preamps, etc.

Well, sound treatment is another thing. However, I don't really have a dedicated space to put all this gear, which makes treatment difficult.

Between the studio and the live sound reinforcement company... I have well over 300 microphones possibly closer to 400 and one of these days I'll put a post up of them all.
But here is one wild educated guess on just one type of microphone....30) Shure beta58s

()

Sennheiser
2 x MKH 20 - omni
2 x MKH 30 - fig.8
2 x MKH 40 - cardioid
2 x MKH 8020 - omni (due any moment)

1 x MZD 8000 (digital microphone adaptor)
2 x MKH 800 - switchable
2 x MKH 816F - long gun (don't ask)
1 x MKE 66 - stereo electret
1 x MD 421 - dynamic cardioid
1 x MD 441 - dynamic super-cardioid

Neumann
1 x TLM 103 - cardioid LDC
2 x GFM 132 - hemispherical boundary mic.
2 x KM-D - digital mic.
2 x KK 183-D - diffuse-field omni head for KM-D
2 x KK 131-D - near-field omni head for KM-D
1 x DMI-2 (digital microphone controller)

Beyer
M 67N - dynamic cardioid

AKG
D 12 - dynamic cardioid

Misc.
Jecklin Disk
Schneider Disk

And I'm sure I've got more I've forgotten.

Mic List.

It's a bit raggle taggle, but it seems to cover most angles well enough.

Dynamic

AKG D112
Shure SM57 x2
Shure SM58 x2
AKG D190 x2
AKG D11 (Weird Old One)
Sennheiser e818 sII
Ardente MC7 (Really old mic from the 40's)

Capacitor

Audio Technica 4033a
Audio Technica NT10a
Rode NT1a
Rode NT5 x2
AKG C1000S

Ribbon

T.Bone RM700

2 Avenson STO-2's (just the one pair, since they come in pairs)

2 Shure SM81_LC's (for sale, I was expecting 120+ degrees of coverage per mic, and am only getting about 90- degrees(60-?). I was expecting to add some distance between mic and source, but not that much distance)

20+ Giant Squid mini mono's (great little stocking stuffers and such, I've given most of them away though)

An updated list of sorts.

2x Avenson STO-2 (1x pair) - $450
1x Audio Technica 3035 - $120
1x ATM75 - $75
1x Audix i5 - $60

cheapies:
1x 33-919a (stereo mic)
1x 33-3014
1x giant squid mini mono
1x giant squid oak (stereo mic)
1x giant squid cardioid stereo clip ons (stereo mic)

Although I've listed a number of the cheap ones on craigslist. Since most of what I record doesn't need the cheap but still worth more than $10 mics.

Just starting my collection.

(1) Heil PR40
(1) SM57
(1) SM58
(1) AKG Perception 100

Before the Summer is out, I hope to add a pair of OktavaMod MK-012s and perhaps another condenser or close mics for toms (421s would be nice :)).
