2 - MXL 603s
2 - AKG D-112
6 - AKG C-418
3 - Shure SM-57
1 - Peavey PVM-45
2 - Audio-Technica ATR-40

...Always looking to round out the ol' library; slowly filling up the locker! :D

my modest collection:

1) Rode NT1
2) Shure SM57
3) Nady SCM900
4) MXL 990 (x2)
5) MXL 603s (matched pair)
6) Behringer ECM8000 (x2)
7) Some Radio Shack Dynamic

Here's my collection....

6 - AKG D2300S
1 - Realistic stereo electret condenser
1 - Shure PG58
1 - Shure 565SD (Unisphere - I)
1 - Piezo guitar mic
1 - Recently purchased Nady ribbon mic

The AKGs... well, I bought three of them at something like $4 apiece from Musician's Friend and when they turned out half decent, I bought three more. They're cheap, so they're good for gigs or loaning out. That and I've found they're decent for drum overheads. (I know I'll probably be branded a heretic for not using condensers overhead, but....)

The PG58 is my primary vocal mic, though I'm hoping the Nady will take over, as I've never really found a vocal mic that I like. The PG is okay, but it seems a little muddy sounding. It's just an all-arund "okay" mic. Not great at anything, not bad at anything, just pretty "okay".

Piezo guitar mic.... Cheap, but if you don't mind seriously rolling off the highs in post, it's pretty decent as a Cello mic. (Scary, no?) I have yet to actually use it on a guitar, if memory serves.

Oh, and the Realistic stereo mic. Mid-side stereo, old, more self noise than I'd like. It makes a decent piano mic, though I keep toying with the idea of redesigning its amp circuit to reduce the self noise. Or maybe I'll just replace it with a VP88 when I scrape up the cash. Either way....

My favorite, though, is probably the Shure 565SD. It's a decent vocal mic, but I mainly use it for off-axis miking of brass instruments. Three feet out, one foot over.

I have bought used only and have saved a ton of money. I think these have all been aquired in the last 2 months.
I have two

Sennheiser E835 - $99
Marshall MXL V67G - $99 (with the shockmount)

Other than e-bay is there a good source for used mics?

Here's what I got:

Soundelux U195
Blue Baby Bottle
Rode NTK
Rode NT1A
Neumann TLM103
SE H3500
ADK Hamburg (Matched Set)
Cad E300
Cad E200
Cad M37
SP C1
MXL V67G
Samson C01 x2
AT4050
AT4033
Neumann KLM184 x2
Crown CM700 x2
AT 4051 x2
AKG C430 x2
Shure SM57 x4
Shure SM58 x2
EV 757B x2

The funny thing about this list is I only use a few of these mics for me. The rest are for the 5 or 6 people I record. I should have a garage sale.

And which 5 are most useful for yourself?

U195 / SE H3500 / CM700's / Hamburgs / Blue Baby Bottle are the most useful for me. The U195 & H3500 I use for vox. The CM700's I use on acoustic guitar. The Hamburgs I use on classical guitar. The Baby Bottle was used on the classical with one of the CM700's but since I bought the Hamburgs I haven't used it much. You may think it strange to choose the H3500 as an alternative to the U195 but it works for my vox. I've found the CM700's to sound best on acoustic guitar with out the brightness of the 184's. I know I've listed 7 mics but two of the seven are pairs so I guess that's close.

ljmaxx ill take a sm57 off your hands for ya!

Thanks man but I think I'll pass. It has taken me 10 years to put this collection together and you can never have enough SM57's. I think maybe a cool thread would be What mics have you discarded?
