everyone here has crazy mics-i for one am cheep and need to stop being cheep.....ive got

my girlfriends mic with no label (she said it was around 30 $)
and a chat mic.........

all that is crap^

but i have big dreams and a perpetually thickening wallet.....
soon enough i shall have 100 mics!
maybe even 200 mics!

<walks off as amping-slightly patriotic music is played>

Just starting out sooo...
1 Audio Technica AT4040
1 Audix D6
2 CAD GXL1200 (I need better overheads)
1 SM57
1 SM58
X random dirt cheap Nady mics for... whatever

Chinese made ldc - 100$
SM57 knockoff - 50$
AT Pro 37R - FREE! gift :)

And soon a KEL-audio HM-1 :)

I don't own all these mic's but they are what I have at my disposal at work and I do use quite a few of them every day.

8 x D310 AKG's

2 x CK's

2 x P.Z.M's (Eagle not the most well known manufaturer but they do a fair job for what I require them to do)
2 x SM 58

3 x sennheiser lavalier type radio mic's can't remeber the model number (I think it's the EW series I'd have to look tomorrow at work they cost around £1,500 for all three.

4 x sure W L 93's lavalier type

5 x old crappy TOA lavalier (which I'll replace some time this year)

3 x awful AKG WMS 40 lavalier type (the problem with the AKG's and the TOA lavaliers is that I used them on college productions at the college I work at, because they power at 15 milliwatts this can cause a problem with heavy costumes not to mention masking and walls and drop outs can occur during a performance, where as the sennheisers have a 30 milliwatt output which is sufficient enough to get through heavy costumes and the like and they don't need as much EQ'ing plus the secret is to mic from the widows peak in the hair line.

I am currently trying to persuade my arts college manager to let me invest in a large diaphram mic something like a Rode NT 2

6 mics is it: SM57(3), SM58(2) Radio Shack SM58
Recording... Vocals are the only thing I use mics for. Everything else is direct.
Live....SM57/Vocals & I use an SM58 on a Fender Twin Reverb & the RS58 on a Peavey Renown. The PV is SS & the RS mic softens the harshness a bit.
I like simpleness & my ears are not that sensitive to frequency 'nuances' so I really don't see the necessity in trying any other types of mics.

Dynamics:
Shure SM57 (2)
ElectroVoice ND 868
Beyer M201 (3)
Beyer M160 (2)
Beyer M88
Sennheiser MD441 (3)
Shure Prologue 14L
Behringer XM2000 (2)

Condensers:
StudioProjects C4 (matched pair)
Rode NT-1A (2)
Rode NT-1
Audio Technica AT4050
Behringer B2
AKG Solditube
Haun PZMs (2)
Beyer TX53.33 (or something like this - a headset mike)
t.bone some-or-other (chinese brass clip-on)
t.bone tm9600 shotgun (chinese)
Behringer ECM8000 (2)
Aiwa C1 (I think that's the name - small x/y marketed for their portable DAT recorder)

Count by manufacturer:
Beyer: 7
Shure, Rode, Sennheiser, Behringer: 3

Yes, I do like Beyer mics.

Currently I have:

1x SM-58
2x Hisonic's (the 2 for $25 type) - great for atmospheric micing but not really muich else
1x Audiosonic AT80 - not very impressed with this mic at all

Updated list (it seems like it's changing all the time for me):

Soundelux U195 (Cardioid LDC)
CAD M179 (Multi-Pattern LDC)

(2) Oktava MC-012 (Small-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser)

2 shure sm57s
1 shure sm58
1 sennheiser e602
peavey drum mic kit(only use 2 of the mics, for toms, e602 for kick, sm57 for snare)

in the mail as i'm typing...
2 mxl 603s

not much, but it gets the job done

That's gotta be the largest collection of cheap mics I've ever seen.

Sorry, I was a lost soul before coming here! I'll buy something good and expensive soon.

This spans over 10 years, though.

do you record orchestras or do alot of live gigs or something, my rock band recording mind is having trouble conveiving someone having so many groups of mics (8 414's, 4 u87's)

My guess is this isn't a home studio user. Gotta be PRO with that kind of budget. (which I don't have) Don't you just love a showboat?
