It seems that the absolute best mics for recording acoustic guitars are condensors, such as the MXL 603s and Oktava MC-012's....
The type of stuff you can rent is high end stuff. No one rents out the type of budget mics we talk about on this board. I would say that if you're serious about recording you need to just dive in and buy a rig, slowly but surely. I don't think renting would be anything but a waste of your money.even if i go w/ the bare minimum expense, 2 cheap condensor mics, 1 acoustic, 1 vocal, and a preamp/phantom power that's $300 and not even stereo and it's just an experiment. Can I rent this stuff? I think I saw a post about renting, off I go to search....

Marshall MXL990
.........
I now am beginning to see a couple mentions of the MXL 990... I added one to my collection, as well. What do you all think of it? I did one recording. I have no experience prior with Large Diaphram Condensers, but I did like the results of recording vocal with this. It was very similar to my MXL 603s mic in sound...as one might expect...Marshall told me that it was, in fact, the same electronics. It was a little brighter, though. I think it will satisfy my needs for a long time to come....
Add an AT4047 to my list.
