I notice the MD8 book says that no MD cleaner is necessary. But now I see these MD cleaning kits on the market...hoax or necessity? I occasionally get the fluttering stop/start playback program that's been mentioned in revious postings...could a head cleaner solve this?

Thanks much,
David

WHOOPS!

I meant "playback problem", not "program."
Thanks,

Yo David of Chicago:

That's my old home town!!!! Loved the Como Inn, which is now out of business. I worked there after my military hitch; grew up with the owner's son. I miss the restaurants of Chicago for sure.

Michigan restaurants are so STERILE. No atmosphere.

As to your MD8 head-cleaners; I've been using my MD8 for three years and have never had to clean the heads. So, that may give you an answer. I'm not sure if that is recommended; you can check with Yamaha on their site.

I'm now trying to learn my Yam 2816 high tech box. It's nice but it will be a while before I get fluent. The MD8 was kind of like, out of the box, and record. But, not true with the 2816.

Enjoy those great restaurants in Chicago, Dave.

Thanks for your help! I don't think Yamaha is recommending a cleaner. I've had my MD8 for about 3 years, too. For what I do, it is nearly perfect...if only it allowed for disk copy. Those 18 or so minutes can go fast sometimes, especially when making safety copies of tracks.

I've been reading your posts about the 2816. A little out of my price range right now...

I vaguely remember the Como Inn. Today, the fall/winter weather has finally caught up with us. A high of about 45 expected (woo hoo, break out the wool Bermuda shorts... :)

Thanks again,
David

PS: With over a thousand posts I'd hardly call you green anymore...:)

Don't waste your money. Once in a while I used a can 'o' air to blow out the cartridge chamber just to remove dust, but you probably don't even need to do that.

Yo David and "small medications:]

I forgot to mention that when I had a small problem with disc errors, I used my vacuum cleaner to gently remove dust from the disc holder on the MD8. Seemed to have cleared up that problem. But, I guess a can of air would move the dust around too.

I also used the vacuum on the disc.

The MD head cleaners are for the other kind of minidisk...audio not data...
