I just got an MD4 that was apparently dropped causing the magnetic head to pop out of it's frame. When a disc was inserted, the head was pushed back and would drag on the disc eventually producing an Error 07. I've put the head back where it belongs and it now reads the TOC and plays just fine. What I haven't tried yet is recording which will use that head. I suspect it's bent out of alignment so does anyone know where I can get a replacement head assembly? I plan on trying recording tonight.

thanks,
Steve

have you tried yamaha directly? ive had to use them twice for repairs (one was my own fault as i spilt a can of beer over the thing) and ive found the engineer there to be very helpful and knowledgable

Not yet but I did look up their service contact info on the web. As it turns out, I was able to get the head back in alignment. I can't really believe it but it seems to be working fine. I recorded a couple of minutes of 2 track a number of times with no trouble. It makes sense that the alignment of the optical system is more critical than the magnetic system. I may still order a new part as I don't know how reliable it will be.

thanks,
Steve
