got a pair of mc012's at Guitar Center a couple weeks ago, listened to about 10 in the store, weeded them out, got what i thought was a good sounding pair.

these things are driving me insane!

mainly, their sensitivity to any kind of air pressure disturbance.

i'm not using them for vocals, but for acoustic guitar, and even the air from my arm strumming causes them to make a low-end thud in the middle of a take, and it's not like their so close that i'm about to bump them or anything.

so my question is, are they all like this? or is it just because i risked buying them at GC?

thanks!

I have a pair from the Sound Room and I've never noticed that kind of problem. A wind blast from a vocal will blow them out but not a wave of my arm. Do you have your preamp cranked too high?

preamp...

don't think i had it too high; i was using two mc012's going into the two channels of my best pre, the UA 2-610. levels weren't especially hot going into my tape machine.

a pop filter on each mic micing an acoustic seems extreme, unwieldy and in the way, and i've never had to do that with any other mic in any studio, so maybe i just don't want these!

i guess i'll take them back to GC and be curious as to whether one from the soundroom would be different!

Me Too

I just bought a couple too, (bargain @ £68 each!) and have found the same thing...

I guess they go down more than most (snigger snigger)

I found that a high pass filter on the desk cures the problem though.

never tried those, but I've got the mxl603s and its got a nice character

I've been using them about 2 feet from the guitar and off the sound hole. Other wise it's boom city. But well worth the extra attention to mic placement, or whatever you need to do. :D

Yeah theyre great...

I use them on my acoustic and ambient cabinet micing along with a 57

heres a tune i wrote for Sluice to sing over ..im using the MC012 on both acoustic and electric

harvey turned me on to these things and I love him for it :)

ooh.. about your question.. yes... I got my pair from soundroom.. shipping took about 3 weeks though.. but worth it

Shipping doesn't always take a long time, though.

I ordered a set from Taylor Johnson at the sound room, as well as the LOMO heads....

Ordered on a Friday afternoon, arrived on the next Wed morn. (and the LOMO's came directly from Moscow!)

Very good investment.
