MC012 vs. SM81

Qwarks, I'm having trouble thinking of a mic that I would less rather use for mic'ing acoustic than an AKG C1000S. Now, I'll admit the C1000S makes a better marital aid, a better nightstick, a better tire iron. I could list 20 or 30 mics at a lower price that would do a better job. And it's not AKG. I'm a big fan of C2000B, C451 and C414B-ULS. I like Oktava MC012, MXL603, Shure SM81, SM82, Studio Projects B-1, AT 4033 and 4040, CAD M179, Rode NT-5 and NTK, B.L.U.E. Baby Bottle. I've just never found a single use for C1000S that a dozen cheaper mics wouldn't do better, as well as more expensive ones. I can't believe AKG is still building it.-Richie

Aw, come on - The C1000S is one of my favorite mics of all time!

I'm kidding - They suck.

Whew !

Thanks for the heads up .. I could have very easily bought one yesterday.
There was a guitar at GC that I walked away from during their Labor Day
sale, which was a colossal joke, BTW ..

I went back to give it a second look today and it was gone; no biggie, there

But since I'd driven all the way out there I looked at mics. Since I really
couldn't recall what the consensus was on the C1000 I thought I'd do mah
homework rather than be impul$ive .

Glad I did my homework :D

I did subconsciously remember that that particular AKG was NOT the deal.
