Well, I sprung for an Mbox. Nice little unit and sounds good through the headphones. Since I'm just learning the software (pro tools le) this is probably a dumb question, but I cant figure it out.

I get audion in fine and it records - but no audio on play back. I assume its something the the I/O settings, but they boggle my feeble mind.... any help?

Thanks!

Have you looked at the manual? Don't know which version you have, but in the 5.0.1 manual the information you need is on p. 54, under the heading "Assigning Track Outputs". That should at least get you pointed in the right direction.

Good luck.

Yeah... I've read the manual over and over, along with a separate book that I bought on it... they talk about the I/O settings and say to set them, but don't explain how to do it....

I have version 6.1.... the newest. There is no section titled "assigning track outputs... that I can find anyway. I'm sure its something simple. I have to audio out, even from sample files...

Thanks

Have you disarmed the tracks after recording?

Make sure.....

I agree with Chris. You need to make sure that the track is not "record enabled". That should do the trick. If for some reason that doesn't help check the "auto input monitor" or "input only monitor" settings in the operations menu. Just in case it's the input that you can't seem to hear.

I have also just started learning Pro Tools LE and know what your going through. I got the Digi 002 so it's (I'm assuming here) input output options are going to add to my learning curve. It's not easy coming from other software where your real comfortable to software that's new. I don't like that whole transition thing but I'm picking things up quite fast. I'm real happy with the whole Pro Tools package.

I'm sure once both of us learn and get comfortable with our systems that we'll be real happy we took the time to learn it.

That's what I keep telling myself anyway.....lol.
What do you like most about Pro Tools?

You're right... just a matter of learning....mine was a dumb mistake, the input/playback knob was the problem... got it working now. I have a lot to learn, wish there was a video training program of some kind to learn from... this book is way over my head..... I need a Pro Tools for Dummies, I guess.

What I like about Pro tools? Well... it was the Mbox that I was sold on.... good pres, easy interface and I"m told Pro Tools is a really good program... the sound quality is excellent, I can say that... now if I can just figure out how to do all the other stuff. I dind manage to insert some effects.... pretty easy, actually... I"ll keep learning...

Have you been to DigiDesign's webpage?

Have you visited the Digi webpage? There are videos there that you can watch. You should check it out. There is tons of info on that page. The forum is real helpful too.

Maybe you've been there but just couldn't find the videos. The layout isn't the easiest to navigate. I know it's buried in that site somewhere and I've seen one or two of them and they may help you in some areas.

Glad to hear that you figured it out. Don't be so hard on yourself when it comes to learning Pro Tools, it's a power house and it's going to take time to understand and get comfortable with it.

Good luck with it,

I found 'em.... thanks. And they're actually quite good. Only prob is that I"m on a slow dial up and they wont download well... and they dont seem to let me save them to disk.... I"ll work on that.

Thanks for the advice and support. I think I"m going to like this program once I figure it out!

i got a book by steven roback on protools. it helped a ton. i still use it as a reference guide for more advanced editing work.

Glad you found them.

Happy to help out, that's what we're here for. I hope you find a way to download them Lane, they can be helpful, though short. Maybe when the net traffic isn't so bad you might be able to handle the download a bit better.

I'm already starting to really enjoy working with Pro Tools. I think we'll start liking the program more and more as we learn more about it. I guess that's why people prefer certain tracking programs.

"Willovercome"..... I was thinking of getting a book like that from Digi Design. They have great books on all their systems. Now that you've mentioned that you found it to be of great help I think I will go ahead and get a book for my system from Digi Design. Thanks!
