hello everyone i have a problem with my sound. when i record it sounds very crappy, like i'm recording with a paper bag over the mic. i don't have a sound proof booth but noise isn't my problem it's the quality sound. reverb is out of the question. i'm using a sure58 into a behringer mixer str8 into a soundblater audigy card. does anyone think it's the card or am i asking too much out of this mic?

like crap

even when i do various recordings at different levels it all sounds the same. like crap

Hello there. I think I had a similar problem once expect I was running an SM-58 and Peavey Unity through a Soundblaster Live card. First of all I would make sure you have your mixer running through the Line-In jack. . .NOT the Mic-In. I know that made a HUGE difference for me. Also if that isnt the problem I guess you should just check the levels in the computer, check all the cable and connections. Hope this helps.

okay

thanx i'm grateful for all of the advice i am getting. i'm going to try another mic on my system and see if i get the same prob. i just finished listening to a recording and what i recorded sounds like i'm listening to music through a blown speaker hmmm.

thanx for that advice dude my sound is a hell of a lot better, now i could just imagine what i could do with a real card.

General comment about your original question (is it the mic) even though you figured out it was something else... the preamp makes a difference in the sound (finally had that beaten into me through these forums). Couple nights ago I went back to my little old Tascam Porta02 4-track and recorded clips of a nylon string guitar with and without an AudioBuddy preamp. I thought the version with the preamp (which allowed me to back the Tascam input gain all the way down to line leve) was far more 'live'. Now I'll have to do an A/B with the cheap Nady Starpower 1's that I originally purchased with the 4-track...
