Matching Record and Playback Output?

I'm still struggling with Cubase and am at present just doing rudimentary test tracks (even after all these months).

Last night, I was recording some microphone tests and noticed that when I recorded the track, the level was proper on the VU and monitored properly, but when I played it back, the volume was very low and barely up on the playback meter at all.

What am I doing wrong? Presumably, if you are set up right, the record and playback output should be roughly the same, right?

Thanks for any help.

Try turning the record level up on your soundcard in windows?

it does sound like your windows/soundcard mixer levels are to low.

You've sort of lost me here: My record levels are apparently OK as the Cubase VU on "Channel Mixer" record is right where it should be when I'm recording. It's only on playback that it's weak. The Cubase VU is right on the floor.

I don't see where I can adjust this.

I don't have a soundcard per se as I'm using a SeaSound.

Don't know about seasound,

But if your recording to a computer, you should have a little speaker Icon (usually in your lower right task bar). If you double click on that, your options should come up. Go to "options"/"properties" you should have a bar at the top that say "mixer device", and a box below that which says "adjust volume for"---click on recording, and you'll get faders for your recording levels on your different input channels. Don't know if this will help at all(like I said, I don't know anything about seasound), but I've never had a problem with playback levels in Cubase.

I just tested it, and even if your input levels look good, if your recording levels are down on your "mixer device" it will record at a lower level.

You did not mention whether the VU meters were playing back the same level as when you recorded.

If they ware, then the WAVE input on your sound card's mixer is too low. If they are not showing the same level as when recorded, then the track level and master output level are probably turned down.
