They are old pics by now, and mostly not very good, just from the construction phase. I'll have to update it all soon.

I know - the webpage - Pfffffffffffffffff to many things to keep chasing.
Someone is making us one of those shopping sites, so we can sell CD's etc. on-line. Just a bit slow, it should have been finished by now. As soon as it is, we can put some artists on there.

Thanks, I just had a look at those pics again ... I don't even recognise them anymore!
The place looks all different now. The tracking room has a large iso booth in it, with ehhhh, 7 corners, height varying between 7 and 12 feet, and a huge bass trap leading off to one side, which you can open or close, and 2 double glass windows. Totally anal and over the top, took me 2 months to build, not one single level surface. Oh yeah, it also has a thatched roof, so the tracking room looks like a village.
There is more thatched roof under the control room window, over a 122 cubic foot bass trap for the main tracking room. The bass everywhere is as tight as a ducks ass.
And, we've got the "official" opening party on Saturday. I hate parties.
Oh yeah, it says on the site that there are 2 buildings on the property. Not so, there are 4. The buildings look a bit out of proportion on the pics as well. The "little" barn is 27 x 18 x 14, the "big" one is 60 x 27 x 22 internal. That is the next project, another control room, and next to that will be the new mastering suite. The "big" one is 60 x 27 x 22 internal.
I'm rambling.

Can't wait to see the "done" pics of your studio.

Are you gonna be putting any up?

sjoko....
you had mentioned earlier, that you had done a few *homewreckers* stuff, and was wondering if you had anymore specific updates on what was going on with your facility. Additionally, I had sent a CDr awhile back and was wondering if you had had a chance to listen to it. I emailed a couple of days ago, but if you're like me, you check these boards first rather than the email!!
How about some new *update* pictures to let us all "oooh...and aaahh about."

Sjoko...

Very Nice!! Can't wait to see the finished pics!! I also wished I had something ready to master...(or the band I am working with)

Good luck in your new facility...bet some really outstanding work will flow from there! (too bad a few others can't recognize a generous offer!...oh well)

Last but not least...thanks for all the help you have given us "homewreckers" on the board! I for one really appreciate it!

zip >> (a.k.a. zip :D)

I took Sjoko up on his offer and sent in a cd with 6 originals on it.
When I get the cd back, I will let everybody know how it turned out.

Sjoko has been more than helpful in discussing what was wrong with my cd and what he was gonna do to make it sound better.

I'm sure it will sound as good if not better than what I'm expecting.

Thanks again Sjoko...can't wait to hear it.

mastering technique question

Sjoko2;
I'm new to this (or any) BBS. But I've been mastering my own projects mostly for the joy of learning more about the final process. I've gotten great results but am still falling a little short of the major off-the-shelf product I compare to. My setup to master is a Manley Vari-MU into a Manlely Massive Passive onto an Empirical Labs FATSO (Analog tape simulator ((a very good simulation at that!)) then into an SPL stereo Vitalizer to (I know this seems like alot but it doesn't all get used at once!) a JOEMEEK SC2, then a Lexicon 300L and finally to a T.C Finalizer. In software I use Waves L1, RenComp and C4 multi-comp. My monitors are KRK Expose' 8's, (Mike Shipley and Don Was "LOVES 'EM"-I see why) Mackie HR824's and Roland DS-90's (only for their multi speaker modeling feature) What I would describe as missing is to a small degree the overall cohesiveness aka tightness of all elements blending into one another. I'm assuming I need to quicken the attack values to help this. Also more noticeable as a difference between mine and theirs is 2-3 dB greater overall volume (Jeez, what compressor do I need to push the volume that high without everything getting "blaring loud sounding?") I already am compressing individual tracks then the mixdown file as well then going back with another pass through the Manley! I also am missing a slight sustained brightness (my struggle to describe....) I have enough clarity and am happy w/spectral balance but somehow the majors-through multiband techniques I suppose, have a quality that mimics the effect engineers used to produce encoding with Dolby then not decoding during mix. Sorry for the winded description but thought you may need to know for giving any advise. I would so appreciate it!

Dustin, yours is on its way to you.

Got a couple of days open now to do some more.

cvoelkerx - That's a whole bunch of gear you've got there :)
A couple of questions:
- What do you record on?
- What does your I/O consist off?

A couple of things come to mind which could cause the effects (or lack off) you describe.
First, you might be overprocessing. To much gear will inevitably lead to some loss, particular audible in the high and low regions (but this loss is throughout!).
Second, the lack of tightness. This again points to recording on a DAW, and using oputboard gear for processing. Don't forget that everytime you do such a thing you incur latency, when the track gets back it will be an absolute minimum of 7 samples behind (normally many more, depending on the outboard gear used). For this you have to compensate by alligning all tracks whenever you do such a thing.
Third, digital sound quality depends entirely on A/D quality and clock accuracy. A lack in either or both will result in a loss of highs, lows and 'tightness".

Hope this helps

Sjoko..

In regards to the Grace preamps. were you talking about the 201 model, or the LunaTEC V2 model?

They have a new model out (101)... that might be just what I need.

I couldn't find anything about prices at their site. How much is the one your checking out?

I know who you are

Hey prick,

Sjoko - I know who you are now. Ya you have a pro background and you are still a prick. Someone with your experience would be a bigger benefit to people here if you had a better personality. I see you are not such a prick on other BBS where there are way way way bigger and better pros than you. I hope you like picking on people you know are not at your level. Damn you don't know tempted I am to spill the beans.
