I dropped Lazi a note and asked him if he wants to supply songs. How about if he chose one hip-hop and one non-hip-hip song (e.g., with guitars)?

So who's gonna coordinated our "contest"? We still need a "master of ceremony"! :-0

Im running dial up so a data disc would suit me better.

Are we talking 24bit 96kz or we talking 16bit 44.1 khz source? Its gotta be something we all agree upon.

I agree with enforcer on mixing up the genre, makes it too easy to level percieved volume when its basically the same song:)

How about 24/48 ?

Then a dither and resample would come into play.

sample rate conversions

hi
dithering is part of mastering so if possible the sample rate should be 48 or 24 at the least. i often have to dither from 48 and soemtiems from 96 (fukin idiot clients) and everytihng in 24 bit so higher sample rates and bit rate are preferable (when in rome) Just a suggestion

????????????????(confused)????????????????????

and.... you're having a go at mastering and then converting it to an MP3 file in order to evaluate the differences?

hi
I didn't metion mp3 you can't evalute the quality of the bottom end with mp3s they have to be standard 44 1 16 bit cd files. Where ina ny of my posts did I mention mp3?

Enforcer{EMC}

I say 24/48 straight .wav

I didnt see anything about Mp3.
These would be straight Wave files correct?

Why would there be a mastering / contest or whatever , then everybody goes to MP3?

Malcolm

I didn't see anything about MP3's either but it does raise the question of the evaluation process. Those without high speed internet connects won't be able to listen unless there is some compression format. I do know that because of the internet that some mastering engineers have been doing specials for MP3 files. They take what they did for disc and then listen to what the compression change does to the image and eq etc.., then they modifiy a copy of the master to reflect those changes, and then compress to MP3. That way the clients are getting an internet ready version thats better than what a straight converson for the master would give you.

24bit 48Khz is fine with me.

Hey Sjoko...can I borrow the stagetecs? Pleeeease ;)

Yep,

I know you stated you use dial up.
But how many other people involved are using Broadband or higher connections?

If most are using BroadB or hight connects, then maybe the Wavefile can be posted for download, then listened to.

SoMn, The Wav could be mailed to you via data cd. I guess.

Who has the track?

Have we decided on a genre yet ?

Malcolm

I was just wondering about this thread last night. I have Womp2 this month so lets get ythe ball rolling. Its been mentioned before that we need a ring master for this circus and we were going to have 3 songs and 3 different genre's.

Ill try Country, Rap and Metal if thats ok. No Nu metal...its too easy ;)

let me know when its time...
