Hi looking for some advise , during a clear out we found a pile of Ampex 406 master tapes and others , they are recordings by various people including Usher,Fray Bind and the cheerfulls and others they are circa 1990 and some have the sound engineers name and recording studio on them any advise on how i could sell them would be very appreciated
cheers Kenny

First thing -- do they have any sort of authentic provenance? Studio / engineer markings, note sheets, label stamps, audio that actually matches that provenance, etc., etc.?

If so, that's one thing (although if that's so, they're probably also marked "property of" said label and could theoretically be illegal for you to sell).

If NOT, then they're tapes with music on them and are worth as much as 25-year-old tape.

The big problem is that it's so amazingly easy to fake something like that, especially if the mixes match the commercially released mixes, I don't know too many people that would touch them.

Thanks for the reply all they say on them is the name of the artists
cheers for that kenny

Could just be "analog nuts" (no offense against them -- I'm one myself to some extent) that take CD's and run them to tape just to get "that tape sound" on many earlier digital recordings. I used to do a fair bit of layback processing here for that matter...
