I agree with everything Greg said except for every modern guitarist having a multi channel amp. Most I know have a one channel amp and pedals for all the OD stuff live. In the studio it's the same just cranking the amps for some of the OD sounds.

I did say "almost every modern guitarist" :D

I pay attention to people's amps when I gig. I'm only around punk and rock shows though. Some metal. I don't know what blues or country guys are using. Most guys around here in the rock realm use amps that have at least a boost channel for their "leads". Some actually use actual channel switching. Very few have good tone. :laughings:

I'll agree 100% with very few having good tone! I'm mostly in the "indie" / "alt country" / "pretentious assholes" / whatever who knows shows. Old fenders and ridiculous Booteek amps are it right now. Nobody digs marshalls anymore. When I bust out the JTM 45 people love it, but they dis marshalls all day long. A bunch of stupid sheep just say stuff because everyone else said it.

I play rock and metal, and I have been around marshals all the time I've played guitar and I love them, obviously I've heard other amps, but obviously I'm probably biased to marshal amps

It's hip and cool to hate Marshalls in favor of boutique stuff that costs more and sounds worse. Lots of people do it. I see it too. Especially in the genres you mentioned. In many genres it makes sense though. Not the blind hate, but not using Marshalls. They don't really belong in alt country or jazz or a lot of the faggy indie stuff out there. They kind of carry this stigma of cheese guitar wankery, and that's probably deservedly so. They were THE amp of the 70's and 80's cheese rock shit. Marshalls really only do one thing well - and that's sound like a Marshall and be loud. That's just fine with me. It's really funny when people shell out big bucks for a boutique Marshall clone. They don't like Marshalls, but they'll buy a Plexi-wannabe all day long. :laughings:

I play a lot of "faggy music", and the JTM 45 is my favorite live amp. For recording I usually use my Dr Z maz 18, Fender Deluxe Reverb, and Twins, and JTM 45. I don't get why people always say fender's cleans are the best, they're just different. Marshalls can get some really nice cleans too. Marshall's drives destroy fender though!

Now for Jazz, a plexi may not be the best choice.

You got any clips with the JTM? I'd love to hear it. :)

I'll see what I can scrounge up. I mostly use it live because it's not mine. I'll dig in the archives and see what I can find. I will own one one day though! Such a gorgeous sounding amp...great clean tone and amazing OD.
