Rokket. i'm so happy for you. and if you could click my scales perhaps ? i try and help lots of folks best i can, but they seem to forget.
have a happy christmas.

I don't understand about clicking the scales? If you could tell me how, I'll do it for you. I posted another thread about how I felt about you and the rest of the professionals who are willing to help out. Just tell me what to do with the scales, I'll do it! :)

hey - the scales is no biggie. its all good fun.
if you notice on each discreet message we post to each other on the upper right hand side of each message is a scales icon.
if you hover the mouse over the scales it says add to reputation.
so you click it. like i'm going to click yours now.
peace.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Did it too! Have a great day. About the Vegas, I have recorded as many as 20 tracks without any problems whatsoever, and that it about all I need for what I do. If I feel energetic and get one of my originals done, I will post it in the mp3 clinic so that you can give me some feedback, keeping in mind I have a really simple set-up, with generic mics and only a Fostex mr8; no mixer, no control surface, etc... thanks again, Manning. I am in your debt!

no problem. and thanks.
heres a tip. when doing lead vocals. try doubles ie: singing the vocals twice,
leave one double dry and on second one offset it by a few samples.
(youll have to experiment). you dont want too many but also not too few.
it can add a bit of richness if experimented right.
you can then duplicate one of the doubles duplicated and add some subtle verb. but not too much to wash it out. mix the tracks subtly using the individual track controls.
search my name for lots other tips over tha past year.
also another tip. check out the free SIR at noisevault.com.
its a impulse modeller. think impulses like old reverbs, echoes, plus emulation of some old vintage and newer mic pre's. this could be usefull with cheaper mics. just experiment. but be aware. its quite processor intensive.
i'm not sure your machine will handle it.
anyway - just read up on it at noisevault. a lot of folks are excited about it.
peace.

I will give it a shot. I found Kingston memory site, but they don't ship to overseas military addresses. I will go through the Navy Exchange and custom order two 256's and give myself 512 (it's the max my pc will take, God I regret buying a compaq). I will buy myself a new pc after I retire and move on to my new job (75-80k a year). Have a good day, and thanks again for all your help and advice.

next time buying a pc. some tips.
1. try to avoid big names. as you found out they do some custom things to the pc. go "white box" ie; generic "open" pc system.
2. read the athlon 64 thread in recording and soundcards.
you might find it interesting. note...trogdor system.
3. before you buy a system ask the retailer if you can try your current video capture equipment with it and other gear. eg any new sound card you might get say. you have to be carefull because some tech advances obsolete some of the gear sometimes one has currently.
4. as in 3 above if you decide tombuy a fancy new say soundcard
for a shiny new system, ask its manufacturer if there are any compatibility with the chipset and motherboard you anticipate using. before getting the new system.
as a price guide you can get a nice amd system these days for 500 bucks.
more - depending how you load it up with goodies. these systems will do
40 tracks easily.
but it might be nice to wait. because prolly the amd 64 will drop in price to
even better pricing in the next two years.
just some ideas.

Advise taken. I was going to wait it out a bit, also to see where my fancy goes with recording. As I said, what I have doesn't produce stellar results, but my audience is my family, and they are not producers, engineers, et al. What i have now suits my needs. When I do get something of my own done (I'm doing cover tunes by request for Mom right now for Christmas as well as the DVD), I will post it and IM you to let you know where before I give it up to the board. I value your opinion over others because you don't try to talk above my head, and don't tell me I can't do this, or can't do that. Your advise is always helpful (I've read most of your posts as well as others who, for whatever reason, responded to the questions), and not hard to grasp. I read most of what you had to say before I got on here and asked for you specifically. You let me know right off you were not an expert in what I was asking, but gave it a shot anyway. Thanks once again, and "break a leg" with your endeavors.
Rokket
