**Making Your Songs Sound Full??

Ok, I got dope drum patterns, but when I think of a nice bassline or melody, sometimes it doesnt go with the drums or it just sounds plain. My question for you all is, "WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO TO MAKE YOUR SONGS FULL ONCE YOU LAY DOWN YOUR BASIC DRUMS??(kick, snare, hi hat). Do you lay chords over your drums? Do you do your instruments first, then the drums? What makes you unique as a producer?
