I want to make my own snakes, since I don't think it's worth it to pay $150 for eight 1/4" plugs on a 25 foot cable.

Parts express sells 12 channel snake cable for $1.72 per foot, and standard neutrik 1/4" plugs for $1.25 each. How are these prices? How would something like this compare to a cheap $40 snake like those made by hosa with the plastic plugs? Thanks.

You should be able to build a much better snake than (shudder) Hosa. Soldering is easy and a VERY usefull skill for any studio rat. Plus you can custom size all the cables for a VERY neat and tidy look.
What manufacturer made the cable you're looking at? Personally, I used Beldon. Not the very best but very good. Mogami is even better.

I have some electric drums that use RCA plugs and the module takes 1/4". I have a 9 foot 8 channel Hosa snake, but I need 4 more cables. Should I get a 4 channel Hosa, or would it be better to just get rid of the Hosa and make a 12 channel snake? For a 15 foot 12 channel snake with Neutrik RCA gold plugs and gold mono 1/4" plugs, it would cost $58.08 plus shipping. Would it be worth it, or not? The are just for the pads to the module.

Yo:

I made a few snakes in my career; however, they were always gone by noon.

Green Hornet

I couldn't resist.

First you take a boy snake and a girl snake and put them in the same box, dim the lights...put on some soft music....Barry White maybe. Then give them some alone time and the rest takes care of itself.
