I'M BLESSED.......
What is the best approach to knocking out a quality demo in a week? I don't have much time, I work 50+ hours a week on my main job. Dude has his lyrics, I have the music and we should be starting 2 morrow. But I want to be realistic when I talk to him again. He is excited, there is a Gospel Competition he is enterd into and he must submit a decent demo just to get heard. I know it all depends on spending time in the studio and how quick the vocals are layed and mixed, but I really want to know what more to expect.

I probably don't make much sense because dude is very excited and that makes me feel nervous as hell and very pressured!

Holler Back fam

If possible, you really don't want to rush yourself, because it's going to show in your project.

How much time do you have until the Gospel competition? Depending on that, you might not need to rush at all. I mean, he has the lyrics, you have the music...so most of the lengthy beginning stuff is already done. Also, never rush your client (even unintentionally). You won't get the best of their abilities that way and no matter how excited they may be at the time, you don't want them to listen and listen and then critique their own work and feel that it's half-assed.

I only say this from experience of my own. I've got a CD with about 12 songs that proves this right here. When I did it, I recorded it all at someone else's home studio. I helped create the beats, wrote my own lyrics, and he did all the recording and mixing. Some nights through the process, it got late and I was more dedicated to finish the song than he was. When it was finally finished, I thought my CD was tight at first, but then I listened to it for a month or so and thought it was crap. It still makes me want to redo all the beats, rewrite all the songs and record it all again, this time on my clock, not the studio I was working in.

Now with all that said, give us some timelines and it'd probably be a little easier to answer your question Trizz.

Yeah, I think on his part everything is good to go! The good thing is that it is (3) songs no less than (90) seconds and no more (3) minutes. It must be submitted by Saturday, I just don't want to blow his chances because dude can blow! I guess the fact that I am not charging him a dime, he can't expect the world, but I don't want my name attatched to any garbage!
I'll let y'all know hiw it pans out...........

i guess you gon havto pull some all nighters or somthin

like dude from that mad money show on msnbc said that always stuck wit me, you dont need 8 hours of sleep 8 hours is too long, you wanna get ahead? sleep 3 or 4 hours tops, you know why the other guy is better then you? cause hes up and started his day before you...

i always think about that shit...

its not about being quick.....its all about gettin a clean recording....make sure the demo is a decent quality and not bad...mix it the best u can and try to profile the artist on the tracks.....and u will have a good sounding demo

That's my problem Knot! TIME!!!
We have all day on Tuesday to do 3 cuts, one is acapella so that should be easier. Mixing isn't my cup of tea. I can do it, but it takes me longer than most! I am not trying to rush it, but I am under time constraints and I don't have much free time to dedicate to it, so I have to work quick. If it was just a demo with no time constraints, that would have been cool. I actually did one that took like three 2 hour sessions with the vocals and about 2 weeks with the mixing and adding things here and there (I work 10 hour days too :D )
I guess I will focus on making each minute valuable. I don't believe in keeping something because it's acceptable. Like I said, my name is attatched to it! Dude knows the deal! I want to make the best possible recording utilizing the little bit time I have to do it in.
Noone ever had any rush deals?

That's a good way of looking at it!
I can't afford any all nighters, I still gotta go make the donuts in the morning!
If this was my main Gig, oh Fo sho! This might turn into something bigger too. Dude is a pretty well known singer here in the Bean. I happen to know him and he knew I have a studio in the basement so we'll see what happens......

That's what I am afraid of Fiev.
But I no choice, other than just saying No!
It'll be a challenge but, I'm a believer!

just make it...as clean as u can..,..record clean u have all day to record on Tuesday....try to record the vocals in 4 hrs max....so u can work on the mixing...if the vocals sounds loud over your music just lower the volume..may be down to -3dbs or to your taste ....so it will mix better

i pm u a link to help on your mixin after the demo..
