Im looking into building a new computer and I was thinking I could get a 5 bay one and set up 4 burners as the slave to offer CD duplication. Is there any reason why this cant be done?
You'd need to get one or two extra IDE/SCSI controllers. Other than that, maintaining bandwidth will be the only concern. For that reason, I'd say get SCSI, but you may be able to get by with IDE.
I've kicked this idea around as well. I think, if it were me, that I'd buy two dedicated IDE controllers and hook the 4 drives up to those. Then, using this software, you can burn to multiple drives at one time:
The problem is keeping two burners on the same IDE channel fed. Sustained transfer rates is where SCSI really eats IDE for lunch, and sustained transfer rates is what you need. You could, perhaps, chain four SCSI burners off of one controller and burn them at slower speeds, something I don't think you could do with IDE.
