Does anyone know the mathematic formula for adding makeup gain for compressing. I saw it on here before but I was having difficulties finding it.

Try:

L = Original Level (RMS)
T = Compression Threshold
R = Compression Ratio

(L-T) = A

A/R = B

A-B = Makeup Gain

Thank you. I think I have been adding too much gain. At least it's been sounding like it. I will know for sure now.

Or, more succinctly (for the mathematically inclined):

L = Original Level (RMS)
T = Compression Threshold
R = Compression Ratio

Makeup gain = (L-T) - ((L-T)/R)

He was just goving you the equation factored.
