Make sense of this?

Hey y'all, I'm editing this book, and there's a very odd sentence in here regarding the "recording of amplified sound" for electric basses. Here's what it says:

To record a "pure amplifier sound," the best option is a small (diaphram) mic, which should then be routed from the amp's "line out," "record out," or "direct out" over a direct injection (DI) box and directly to the mixer. This is the most common procedure.

Am I missing something, or does this just not make any sense at all? I wanted to check to make sure I'm not crazy before I contact the author.

Even if what he's saying is a "correct" method (I don't see how it could be), it certainly needs to be worded in a clearer way.

Any ideas?

Thanks

the "pure amp sound" can only be gotten from a line out. the mic statement shouldn't even be in there. i'd contact him to make sure he wasn't trying to say something else but i certainly wouldn't plug a 57 into the amps line-out. :D

That's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure there hadn't been a new world order or that I hadn't been transported to another parallel universe or something.

Thanks! :)

That makes no sense.

Probably just a cut 'n paste error, because the only way a mic is going in a direct-in signal chain is if you beat it in with a hammer. :D

There is no context around that statement but you might also mention to the author that there are many amps that do not have a line out in any form.

That's a good point, thanks. :)
