Friends, foes and fans! (yea right LOL)

Here's my latest piece, a very simple song... Skatepunk comes to my mind, but I don't fancy that music much, and I like this song (obviously!). Good song to bounce up and down to. It has a bit of a surprise solo which should provoke somewhat. Crates of fun!

Now, if a record company mogul came up to me and said, "This is good shit, son", I'd kick him in the yaggies

I liked the sound and the song. Bass and drums were good, I think the guitar is catchy but could be brought up a little. The guitar solo was unique. I was trying to anticipate the next note throughout the solo, just when I thought I had it figured out, it went in a different direction, good job. Vocals were right in there stylistically.

I like the energy of this song...agree with the previous post that guitars could come up a bit in the mix.Vocalist kinda reminds me of the singer from a band called the Dickies.Guitar solo is wacky and I dig that,again,just wish it was a bit up in the mix.Good tune.

Hey good sounds on the instruments here... like the tones... makes me feel like moving, bigtime.
The singer has a cool voice.
Hmm... I would mess around with the mix a bit... I was thinking the guitar could be louder, but the vocals do sound a bit back in the mix already... so maybe try bringing up the vocals + guitar in the mix a bit and see how it sounds.

Yeah, but fun punk rock action man I like what the leads add to the song too, I always think punk type stuff is better when there's a lead guitar too

thanx all for listening and encouragement!, i think this is a good example of a tune that turns out really well despite - or because of? - slightly lower expectations...

....as for the mix, it's always a delicate thing to find the perfect balance. What's perfect in one set of ears/on one set of speakers, is not in another.... you can only spend so much energy and time on a piece. These days, I choose to let go a little earlier....

cool tune i like how it has more than 3 chords, haha. the lead sounds awesome too, i think the guitars sound fine as they are, they do sound kind of in the background, but it still sounds good to me. the solo is really cool too, very "different" choice of notes haha. good work madmush.

One thing that surprises me is that nobody has slaughtered the solo! I mean, it's so disharmonic!!, isn't it? Particularly you, Lawler, with the classic schooling and all, I was looking forward to some reserved statements even though I know you talk a lot about performance, which is what this solo is.... I decided to do the solo without bothering with the key or nothing, and I cracked up when listening back! I'm positive people who love westcoast rock, like Toto and Chicago and stuff, will most likely think it's atrocious.

Oh man, despite the punk demeanor you're WAY too constrained by stereotypes, Mush!! I think if you heard much of my own music you'd say I'm not traditional-tonality oriented at all - you know, major-minor-19th Century harmonies/voice-leading-stuff. In fact I'd bet, from knowing the "classical" musicians I have, that - except for the neighborhood piano teacher type - they're more adventurous in their approach to tonality than most metal and punk musicians are. Certainly more than the rock/pop genre tends to be. I just LOOK conservative (and, well, OK maybe I write kind of formally). But in actual fact I'm a bad-ass about tonality.

Speaking of the guitar solo in this tune at 1:35. I think it should come up a little and that a thicker sound, maybe less fizz & verb would set it apart from the backing guitar's sound

Well, badass Tim!, i think what it boils down to on my part is the inadequacy of my music theory and I WILL expand my knowledge in these areas. My fave band was always The Clash, and one of their key features was the mixtures of elements from all walks. I like it when you put on an album and you get diversity, and not the same tune 12 times, which is what most acts have to offer.... perhaps not as much from a lack of talent as from an abundance of influence of economic interests...
