Mackie VLZ's giving me a false reference for mix?

My new curiosity I now have is that I read a post that claimed the Mackie line inputs are attenuated down and sent through the VLZ pre's, thus giving everything sent through the channel the "VLZ sound." The returns from the PC for monitoring are run through my Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro. So my question is, am I getting a false refrence due to the fact that the mix is getting the overall "VLZ sound?"

I'm not totally certain about this, but I don't think that information is accurate. I could be wrong, obviously, but it doesn't quite sound right.

If you're plugging something in to a line input -- at line level -- then I highly doubt the Mackie's input would be attenuating anything.

The stereo input channels don't have preamps. If you plug into the mono channels then you probably are using the mic preamp because as I recall the gain knob will raise the level.

That's a fact jack. Same with the 8-bus. Untortunately neither has the 'stereo' input channels. Maybe some of their smaller mixers?
I stopped doing that for the most part due to the 'unknown/always guessing/setting' stereo balance hassles.
