Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I read about this on another thread, did a little looking on the web, and my question is this: at $100-$130 used, isn't this device with it's two onyx preamps a much much better deal than something like the dmp3? I've never used onyx preamps, but they get praised somewhat around here. Seems like the satellite is a great way to get a couple nice preamps (well, nice on a budget) and also some welcome flexibility in a small studio like mine. What am I missing? What's the catch? I've thought about getting a used onyx mixer for awhile now, and this look's like a cheapskate's dream. Thanks for your help.

The sattelite is a great deal for a small home setup...couple of decent preamps, adequate monitoring capabilties, portable for remote stereo stuff, nice firewire connectivity... but do some research on the unit itself... a lot of quality control issues... I'm sitting on a bad one here... I'd buy another in a heartbeat... if Mackie would assure me that I wouldn't just wind up with two bad units...

Yikes, what's their customer service like? That's a surprise, as the one mackie mixer I have (ancient) is built like a freaking tank. It's old, so maybe qc has gone in the shitter in recent years. Oh well, at the price it's going for, seems worth a shot.

Google mackie sattelite... and read about it, or search the Mackie user forum... this things a dog... It might be why they're selling it...

Symptoms creep up slowly, at least mine did... distortion on one channel... very infrequently... resolve by reseating in base, to all the time on both channels.... I'd be very, very, wary...

This is only when docked in the base unit... but the output gain without the dock is lower than I would expect also

Ya I had one and sold it asap. It was making some strange noises and I knew right away I got one of the many bad ones. I have a Firebox I posted last week with accessories you might be interested in though....

It's really too bad... it's a great solution for someone who only needs a couple of channels...

Like I'd ever buy anything from you... think about it.

Lol, issues were stated. I have 1000 positive feedback on ebay and am in no way dishonest. I have bought and sold many things have great dealings. You can check on Futureproducers.com and there are posts where people vouch for me from previous dealings. But I got what you were saying. I wasn't thinking in how I worded that.

I had hoped so...

I thought it was funny, intentional or not :D

There's some chatter on GS that Mackie the company is in dire straits -- so if there's some concern about future support, it might be worth chasing that down.

I have this unit and never had an issue, it is ideal and is exactly what I was looking for my desktop, used with podxt, Digitech RP20, condenser mic and Sonar 7.0.

I think most of the bad press was down to drivers, latest drivers = no problems

No... you were lucky...

The driver issues were a mere nusiance... this is something else altogether.
