Mackie 32 channel 8 buss

I have been browsing this site for quite a while but this is my first actual post, I am sure that someone can help me here.

I have a chance at getting a Mackie 32 channel 8 buss and a Mackie MDR 2496 for about $3600. Now I know the approximate value of these two pieces however what else would I need to complete the setup? I am currently use a Korg D1600 and Steinberg Nuendo, Cubase SX and Wavelab for my home recording projects so I don't know all that much about component setups since all that I need is located completely within my computer or completely within my Korg.

Also, is the Mackie board better for live sound reinforcement or is it suitable or recording?

Any advice/help/input will be greatly appreciated.
 
I know of several studios that use the MDR's for tracking for the simple reason that you can FTP the standard WAV files straight to your PC for mixing in Nuendo, etc.

The 32/8, is pretty much still the staple mixer of the home studio setup as far as I can tell. There are definitely better preamps out there, but your not going to get much more bang-for-the-buck.

If the 32/8 is more of a home studio mixer, what would be more moderate level?
 
My money would be on the Ghost - The EQ's are schveet, the preamps are cleaner than probably anything even close to the price range.

The only biotch I have with it is the meter - If you want it to read post-fader, you've got to solder 32 little jumpers inside the console. There's no switch.

Machine control is a plus, too (not on the LE version).

IMO, The Allen-Heath is really more suited as a FOH mixer... Not the quietest board out there... I remember a while back they were trying to get into the project studio market with this 32X8 board with a tube preamp built-in... That wasn't the quietest board out there either...

Yea, I've seen that the Allen and Heath is really a live board but it still gets the job done :)
 
don't forget cableing/patchbay the rig together!It can be a forgotten cost!Good luck..
