They will electocute you if you touch them and they are sensitive about their weight.

(but they are good mixers, pretty flexable and have decent mic pres)

There, only half smart ass

BBS users!

C'mon, I know you guys are better than that.

Bad Name, We need a little less info from you. Please don't tell us what you want to know about it or what you want to do with it.

Im looking at the 1402, 1604 mixers. My first mixer, these are the two Im going to choose from. For instrumental production, maybe here & there a track with vocals but not too often. Overall, I need it to make instrumentals & I would like to be sure that the choice between the 1402 or the 1604 will be able to offer me alot.

There, I hope I can get a clean good response now. :)

I had a 1604 VLZ Pro.

I liked the sound of the preamps better than any of my other 3 or 4 boards I've used here, including my current mixer. Lots of headroom & routing options. IMO, it sounded great in front of my DAW. The 8 direct outputs were very cool. I didn't like to sum everything to the main outputs to my recorder though, kinda sounded dead to me.
A lot of people don't like the EQ, but I liked the sweepable mids. Made it alot quicker and easier to get the sound I wanted. (my previous mixer didn't have this feature.)
IMO, a good product for the home rec'cer.

Rude Solo light doubles as a mini tanning booth.

Mackie has my vote just for having a good sense of humor.

For a few more C-notes though, you could get an Allen & Heath. That would be my next buy for an analog board.

YMMV

Thanks!

Ive heard good things about Allen & Heath, but I have never had any hands on experience with one of them. Ill look into them also though, Im going for that thick & warm analog sound like Dr. Dre. Thanks for all the help Jim, I appreciate it.

the 1604 is what you want.

if you've got multiple midi outboard gear (sound modules, keyboards, drum machines, 1200's) that you want to connect getting a 1402 will do the trick, but then when the beats get good you are going to want to have vocalist come in, then guitarist comes in, then bass players come in, then percussionist (congas, shakers, timbales), and before you know it the 1402 just won't be able to handle everything you want to throw at it.

i've had very good results with the 1604vlz pro. if you've got hot, fat, warm equipment then the 1604 won't prevent that warm tone from being transferred to your audio medium. it won't make a weak sound module more warm.

i use the roland xv-3080 (with orchestra card) for keyboard and string type sounds, and the asr-x pro for drums and sampling. i think i'm getting a good thump, but you've got to know how to mix and master or all that pristine recording won't be worth a damn.

goto my web page and select the audio section. all of those hip-hop tunes were made with the 1604.
