Mackie 1402 VLZ vs. Carvin 2444

I am thinking of trading my 1402 in to get more channels I would like to get another Mackie but do not have the cash available.
I would like to have 24 channels and the Carvin seems to be a pretty good buy. It is not powered but is designed for "live" use. Does anyone have any experience with Carvin mixers? How are they compared to Mackie? My biggest concern is noise. I am not worried about durability as much since it will stay in my studio.
Any thoughts?

I own the Mackie right now but need the extra channels.
Now my guy says that he has a 20 channel samick that is cleaner than the Carvin.
Does/Did samick make decent mixers?
I do trust the store, They have given me pretty good advice on gear so far, and are fairly knowledgable.

Samick is like poor man's Carvin. Ugh!


I like Carvin's Guitars, Basses, Amps, Power Amps (mostly) and speakers, but I'm very unimpressed with their mixers. Unreliable, and IMHO poorly designed.

I don't like Samick based on their floor monitors, don't know much about the other gear they make.
 
is this the same "samick" that makes guitars?..because if it is...steer waaaay clear..
 
It is, but this seems to actually be a decent board.
It has a rackmounted power supply, 4 aux sends w/stereo returns on each, 4 band e.q., 4 bus channels, 16 mic pre-amps and direct outs on each channel.
I think that I am going to go with it and I can always return it if It is noisy or something.
The advantages over my 1402 would be the e.q.-4 bus-freeing up some rack space-and 2 extra aux sends. The disadvantage would be the size of the board (2 and 1/2 or 3 feet long by 2 feet deep) and it is a "Samick" so customer support is not like Mackie (you don't need to call!).
I figure I will try it out and next step will be a digital yamaha.
I have to get the wife to think it is her idea! :)

Most of the cheap stuff you buy is actually manufactured by Samick but with different brand names on it.

I would stick with the Mackie and work around the limitations until you can afford something better. What do you need more channels for? Mics, keyboards? You can probably find a small line level submixer or get some preamps that fit your budget and will work well with the mackie.
 
I guess that Allen & Heath made this board for Samick. It is similar to a G3. I did end up getting it. It does sound very good, but I am still trying to re-arrange my studio to fit everything in! It is much larger than I remembered. 3x2and1/2 and pretty darn heavy. I had to make a quick trip to staples last night to buy a temporary table for it. My desk was not near big enough. I will post a pick as soon as I get it all cleaned up (for 5 minutes!).
 
the samick guitars i have played are low price acoustics..low budget guitars.

nothing wrong with cheaper guitars, not at all, there are some good ones out there...i have a seagull s6+ spruce that is awesome..i play it as much as my taylor...

but the samicks i've played cannot begin to compare with the seagulls and simon and patricks and even the A&L guitars in that price range ($200-$400)...they may have some good models but i've never seen them..

now, some of the ibanez and fender acoustics are pretty nice, and samick might make them, but they vary greatly in quality from guitar to guitar...QC is horrible..in my experience..
 
mackie 32-4 vlz

Well I took back the samick for "quality problems" and I bought a Mackie 32-4 VLZ. It is the perfect board for me! I love it and am glad that there was a problem with the Samick otherwise I might still be using it and would have never bought the Mackie!
