I tell people I don't use a computer, I use steam.

100% steam recording.

Clean and hot. :)

Answer:

1.) I use a tape deck.

2.) Which do you prefer......and why?

3.) So like...what brand of strings do you use on your bass? I only record guys who use strings that I prefer. ;)

I thought about telling him that use an Atari or maybe a Commadore. :laughings:

HEY!

I still have my 20-year old Atari that still runs the original Cubase sequencer app.

:D

I haven't serioulsy used it in years...but the the damn thing still works like the day I got it. :)

It might just be a way of sizing you up, not actually caring which you use.

College students and techno geeks tend to be Mac (and quite liberal) as perpetuated in modern universities.

PC users tend to be seen more as do it your self-er's who don't follow collegiate protocol (and normally are more flexible and open minded)

...........I'm just sayin'................
No hate posts, please:spank::spank:

Tell him you use Linux, that will shut him up.

I use:

Windows, Mac and Atari (1040), they all have the good and bad points, they all sometimes work and sometimes don't, and a computer is a box with wire and circuits and the computer does not know what brand it is.

And I don't use Pootools.

Alan.

Lol I'm a PC user because I'm a cheap bastard and I'm not willing to pay an extra 1000 - 2000 dollars just so that the icons can bounce before my applications open. Mac's and PCs can both have very similar specs the only difference is the price tag.

Exactly they are only devices to store data......

This whole "PCs are cheaper than Mac" thing just doesn't jive all that well with me.

Your average Dell or HP desktop's build quality and components are not comparable to what you get in a Mac. I build my own PCs. The last one I built cost me around $2500, because I made sure to put in quality components in there, from memory to hard drives to power supply, and the case.

If you compare PCs of similar build quality to those of Apple's products, the price difference is negligible.

For example: http://www.alienware.com/Landings/desktops.aspx

And yet they work just fine. I'm typing this on an inexpensive Gateway PC that I've used every day for eleven years straight, and the only thing that's needed replacement was the CRT monitor, which isn't even part of the computer. Who needs better than that and what's the point of paying for it? My Toshiba laptop is still laptopping after about six years, and only cost about 40% of what a similar spec'd Macbook would have cost at the same time. I think I've gotten my money out of it and then some.

I have a Dell laptop that's about 8 years old that still works great. I built my home pc about 3 years ago for about $600 and haven't had a problem, yet. It stays connected to the internet 24/7 and I use it for my DAW.

This isn't really about which is better. More about why it doesn't matter. Like I think has been said.......it's just a tool for a job.

"So... are you Mac or PC?"

"I like cheerios!"

"Answer unclear, please try again."

"So... are you Mac or PC?"

"Ever try recording to fecal matter? I make shit sound good, that's all you need to know."

I paid nothing for my Mac and $80 for the one I used before this. It all comes down to knowing how to ask for things. The reason you are working today and pay for anything is because you don't know how to ask for things correctly.

I use Mac for audio, mainly because I got it for free. The PC is downstairs beside the kitchen, so it can be a bit distracting. If I had the choice, I'd use the PC. It's a powerhouse.

Quad-core @ 2.83GHz, 4GB RAM (3GB usable), and at least 3 internal drives (more partitioned but that doesn't matter really), and an "Icy Box" external ESATA drive chassis. Tons of USB and Firewire Ports, 1920x1080 HD screen, Windows 7 32-bit (although I'm thinking of setting up a dual-boot with XP).

I reckon, altogether, it just cost slightly more than my IMac would've cost if I had to buy it. Can I add more drives? No. More USB/Firewire ports? No. Change my main screen? No. Upgrade the processor? I'd have to get very technical. I'd have to go forking over a ton of money for the Mac Pro just to get all that, and I'm not prepared to do that any time soon just so I can say I use an operating system that I don't prefer.

I'd ask an engineer if they used Mac or PC just out of curiousity, or for a bit of conversation. I'd never consider it a deal-breaker, or to judge how good of an engineer they are or how good my music will sound. Why? Cause I'm not an idiot.

PCs of 8....PCs of 8....PCs of 8....

"A Mac lozenge in your mouth
Keeps sore throats at bay
Pop a Mac into your mouth
Help that cough today"

so the advert went in 1970 to the tune of 'Old MacDonald had a farm'.

Profound........

Haha I hate the whole Mac-PC debate...

A mac is a PC?

So is Linux is a PC

An Atari is a PC

A commodore 64 is a PC

PC = Personal Computer.

I have or own all of the above, all computers can be good or crap depending on if they are doing what you want them to do.

Alan.

I think all computers so far are crap. They need to burn the OS to a chip so that it doesn't build a deck of cards every time it powers on. That, to me, is the blaring flaw with all computers in 2010.

It's like having a car that won't start if your CD isn't pushed all the way into the CD player. Or a person that dies because their hat is crooked. The most basic functions are not "etched in stone" and it doesn't correlate to what you see in nature.

True, but generally speaking, PC normally refers to a normal computer running windows, as they are the majority of the market. And, it's also a more general term because there are tons of different manufacturers of PC's, and tons of different manufacturers for all the different components which can all be mixed and matched. You can't describe them all when you're referring to your computer, it'd take too long. Whereas there are no 3rd party/external manufacturers for Macintosh computers, and there never will be. All the components are always going to be the same really, and designed to run one operating system (disregarding Boot Camp here). So, they can easily be called Mac.

The rest of the OS's are normally referred to as such, "A PC running Linux".

Kinda like the way (don't know about America) a vacuum cleaner over here is usually referred to as a hoover. Hoover were a manufacturer, and the name got stuck to vacuum cleaners in general.

Just accept it :D
