Well I was just checking out Apple stores and noticed that there our no Firewire ports in the new Mac Book Pro. So I was wondering how is it possible to connect Firewire interfaces to Macbooks. Also there aint any express card slot to add firewire to the Mac. How is it possible then?

Also laptops and PC nowadays dont have expresscard slots and mostly 99% the laptop 4pin firewire never detects firewire interfaces.

I believe you have to go to a macbookpro on the current models
to get firewire. The macbooks did have them earlier last year
but not anymore.

Yeah so if thats the case how will people run firewire interfaces also Laptops too no longer come with the express card slot though in some models its still available.

Standard computer chores: Macbook
Specialty high-end computer functions: Buy a Macbook Pro

You wouldn't buy a lower-end PC notebook for recording, either....

Well Actually I was planning to get a netbook but somehow its quite rare that a netbook has a express card slot. Also all the new laptops today do not offer Express card slot and normally the 4-pin firewire doesnt work in this case what one has to do.

I have bought this expensive Presonus FireStudio mobile which is firewire and my laptop firewire doesnt detect it. Its has that normal PCMCIA slot and I am not sure if I get a PCMCIA firewire card the performance of the Interface would be optimum. Also another issue is that firewire express cards itself are pretty rare and usually not available in the markets.

Meanwhile I got this cheap VIA chipset Firewire card for my Home PC and was able to power the Presonus FS Mobile but again not sure if it will run at its optimum performance.

I would have never ordered a firewire interface if I was to face such issues with the port. I feel USB is best. Firewire is a failed technology.
