M-Audio Trigger Finger and an SP-303

Hi. I'm quite new to the whole workings of home recording. Last year I bought an M-Audio trigger finger to use with my computer to conjure up some beats. Over this time, though, I've gotten much more into the idea of recording my own sounds to use with the trigger finger. I've heard of using the SP-303 for this type of thing, collecting samples with it and then plugging it into the trigger finger? Is that how it goes down? If anyone can drop some knowledge on me.. it'd be great.

If the SP-303 comes with a manual that should have the notes that the pads correspond to listed.

If not, trial and error would probably be the quickest way to get the two connected.

Hook a midi cable from the midi out of the Trigger Finger to the midi in of the SP-303. Make sure they're both on the same midi channel -- channel 1 is always good -- and start assigining the pads on the Trigger Finger to match the SP-303.

After loading a full bank of samples and plugging the SP-303 into an amp or headphones, start at midi note C2 at the lower left corner of the Trigger Finger grid, and if you don't hear a note out of the SP-303 change the midi note up and down until you hear somthing.

You'll be Triggering away in no time at all.

Cool, and besides recording my own samples with the Sp-303, can I upload banks of files to it?

According to what I remember about it and what they have to say at Harmony Central there is both a card slot and a USB connection available.

Can't find the original Boss specs nor a photo that shows the back of the unit, but I'm quite sure it has both.

Not quite sure what kind of card (maybe SD 3.3 volt?) or the maximum size the machine can utilize...
