middleman - I stand corrected - I'm not aware of these particular speakers and was talking generalities but it appears from your and others experiences that these speakers do put all the low end via the rear. I did a quick search and it appears that they are designed to be matched with the SP8 sub for full performance.

cheers

Hey John, not a problem. You have no idea how uncomfortable I felt arguing with someone of your expertise.

Yes, that is the case. The subwoofer really completes the whole sound picture. That is my next purchase actually.

Great discussion and info.

Can I add a ..cheap subwoofer (I think the SP8 sub is about $400 !!) ...fairly easily as far as connections go (I use a small mixer) ?? Any particular brands, recommendations would be much appreciated ... Thanks.

I use a Yamaha sw150 with mine and it sounds really good.

Deemic - Thanks for the reply.

How's the connection go ?...
I believe the SP5 has the XLR & TRS connections ...but the sub-woofer which I have in mind (Yamaha YST SW105 or the SW-215) has a pair of RCA INs plus these banana plugs/bare speaker terminals ... I guess, I would need some sort of converters or special-made cables for this ??

PS: Wow, your SW-150 costs about $650 or so !!!... :)

Yorkville YSM1P

Any user experience with these?

I think it was Blue Bear who mentioned these.

Not too unreasonable a price it would seem...

Great tip. I have foam on the wall behind my speakers. I will have to try this.

My SP-5B Monitors are bouncing off of a plastered cinderblock wall. If you have foam behind your SP-5B's, aren't you absorbing a good bit of Bass?

Thanks;

Depends on what's behind the foam. Really low frequencies cut through acoustic foam like butter, Foam stops highs.-Richie
