I have just got my m-audio studio package, problem is it came with 120 volt ac adaptor. Australia is 240 volt so i bought an ac adaptor to suit ie.9v 1000 m/amp, problem is I need to know the polarity of the omni io. Can anyone help please?

Look at the adapter that came with the M-Audio or the M-Audio unit itself. Does it not show whether the tip is + and the sleeve is -?

I checked everything, no information. A guy at the local electronics shop said to connect tip to negative and if that worked, fine, if not try the other way. He also said tip to negative could not damage the unit. So i tried it , seemed to power up ok but after turning it off when i powered up again all i got was a flicker on the power on light and a pop through the monitors and then nothing! I fear the worst! Help!

Try hooking it up the other way tip+ sleeve- .... if that doesn't work then your fear may well be justified.
If the electronics shop has a means of converting 240v to 120v you could have them check the polarity of the Omni's adapter.

If worst comes to worst and the unit seems to have died .... play stupid (as in you couldn't get the unit to work period) and send it back to the vendor for a replacement.
You could also try contacting M-Audio Tech support with your query in regard to polarity and a possible solution to an appropriate adapter to use with your line voltage in Australia.
