the bx8's are the same price as the BX5's...why is that? I thought bx8's were better...

they have new ones with an A at the end. the old ones are still sold at some places on closeout so you might be seeing older bx8s

what do you guys think about the studio pro 4's and the dx 4's?? are the bx5's or the 8's that much more worth it?

I think the bx8s are well-worth the close out prices they are going for. I picked up a pair for only $279 from MF. They weirdly marked them back up to $299 like a week after I bought them...

I'm VERY glad I went with the 8" speakers though. The GC salesman sold me on the 8"s when I went in to demo a pair of rokit 5s. I know he was just trying to get to spend more dough, but damn, he was right about being able to hear the bass, and the bx8s can pump out the bass.

I can't comment on any other models since the bx8s are the only ones that I'm familiar with, but the larger speaker will make a BIG difference. M-Audio stuff seems to get good reviews, so I'm sure you could do worse than the bx5s or dx4s, but like i already said, having that bigger sound from a bigger speaker is worth the extra cash IMHO.

I think that exaggerated bass can be misleading to a novice home recorder. It depends on the kind of music you are recording but remember you are not watching a movie in surround sound, where you want the floor to shake.

You want to hear EXACTLY what your music sounds like - as unchanged as possible.

if money's an issue, get the old bx8's. if it's not an issue, go for the bx8a's.

buying the old bx5's right now i feel like is a waste, unless you can find em super cheap now.

If I can add my 2 cents (Keep the change) Once you find monitors, regardless of price, that lends your ear a specific sound that you can identify with, that is the pair worth keeping. What you pick up in a mix through your monitors that translates consistency, you have a pair of monitors suitable for you. I CAN'T SPEAK TO THE NEXT MAN!!!! We all are made and built different. MY RULE: If you can translate it consistently then you're at an advantage because your ears are well adapted to whatever monitors you're using. Then you can take it from there!! As far as mixing properly, that is a whole different subject..............

Oh I wouldn't say that the bass on the bx8s is exagerrated at all, its that its *there*. how can you hear exactly what your kick drum sounds like on a 4" speaker? The bx8s ARE studio monitors, they are still (relatively) flat.
