I'm considering buying an audiophile 24/96 so i can mix my tracks down to the computer cheaply. I've heard good things about the card except for a review on musicians friend that said that it has a cheap smoothing filter which chops off a lot of higher frequencies and gives the audio an "unprofessional lack of clarity". Does anyone know anything about this? it makes me hesitate in buying it.

The guy that said it chops off the high frequencies is an idiot. I've been using an Audiophile for a couple of years and it is a very good soundcard.

You cant go wrong with an Audiophile, an Emu404 or an Echo Mia.

Will all give great quality for a bargain price.

so which would you recommend most for what im doing? i dont need any special features, just two channels in with high quality sound. right now with software i'm stuck with acid, or reason.

I use a 24/96. It is by far the least of my worries in my studio. It should suit you well.

the audiophile 24/96 is an excellent card, and is bit perfect...
