Hello I am new to these forums but as I am now officially building my home studio, I will be reading these forums alot. To start with my newb question as I couldnt find a thread that answered my questions.

I just put a 2496 sound card in my computer. I also bought an Alesis 150 amplifier. I have a pair of akg-121 headphones thats what I have so far. My question ... HOW do I hook my 2496 to my AMP. I thought it would be straight forward, hook some rca's from the outputs on the card to the inputs on my amp. But thats not working.... I just dug some old crappy cables out of a box likely from the 90's ... is that my problem?

Any input would be awesome as I am tottaly green... thank you very much in advance for any input. Thank you.

It would be better to use a small mixer between the soundcard and amp but it should still work straight into the amp. You most likely have something set incorrectly in your M-Audio control panel.

i see

yeah I was thinking about that. I will buy myself a mixer. Any suggestions? I dont need anything too crazy. Also, what kind of cords am I going to be after to hook everything up ?

thanks! getting questions answered directly instead of searching the net for hours is amazing.

Something like a Behringer 802 mixer will work fine. You can use regular rca cables to hook it up.
